How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010584 / WP691581 Door Switch Lever

Replaced the belt and switch lever. Switch still works. Also cleaned cabinet interior and exhaust duct work. 

I replaced the part very easily, and now it works great. 

Door lever broken off. Replace the door switch lever. 

I unscrewed two screws around the door and two screws for the lint trap lifted the lid on the dryer replace the part and screwed everything back together

Replaced lever by prying open top of dryer, unscrewing two screws and removing old lever. Conceptually, this was very easy, but it was difficult to squeeze my hand between the drum and front wall oft he dryer to hold the piece in place while screwing in from below. Once I gave up and asked my daughter for help holding the piece while I screwed it from below, it went much more smoothly. 

Replaced with new lever. 

I opened the top of the dryer (after watching the video on your website) and replaced the lever on the switch. Removed two screws near the lint filter, used a putty knife to release fasteners under the top and raised the top. Held it in place with a short piece of board then removed the two screws holding in the switch and lever. Replaced the broken lever with the new one and put it all back together. The handle was a little more difficult as it took a lot more prying with a screwdriver to get it in place. It was discovered that the door latch was not broken and just needed to be put back in place. I will keep the new one in case it ever does break. Hope this helps.
