How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012288 / WP8269117 Dishwasher Door Latch Handle

Replaced a broken plastic door handle on a Kitchen Aid dishwasher per video. Part supplied was a perfect fit and replacement took less than 15 minutes. Dishwasher is functional again, wife is happy. 

Via your site, we figured out what part needed to be replaced, watched the installation video, ordered the part and the rest was easy-peasy! Only suggestion would be to have everything needed on hand b/4 dismantling. Not difficult at all! Video was super helpful, thanks.

The video provided made this repair project very simple. Because the unit is 10 years old, I also ordered 2 new springs to replace at the same time. Total job took less than 15 minutes. One other note, the 'heat" light was flashing and the dishwasher wouldn't turn on. What you need to do is to hold that button for at least 4 seconds and it will reset. The dishwasher worked just fine after that. Thank you for the easy to follow instructive video. 

After taking the door apart I saw the two parts that were the likely "offenders." I went on line and found the video of the handle replacement and at that point, recognized the problem. I immediately ordered the part and when it came in 3 days later, reviewed the video once again and replaced the defective handle. Thanks to the video it was easy. 

I watched the very simple video on the appliance parts pros website and was guided through without a problem. Our dishwasher is a Kitchen Aid and it seem the small plastic arms of the door handle break off every few years. Design should be a metal sprocket but since it is not then that means we have to replace these handle parts every few years. Now that I know how it is not a huge stress for me anymore. I also bought a spring, bracket and actuator just in case and replaced them all but the part that gets the most wear is the plastic handle. 

Ordered new latch handle on Wednesday and it arrived on Friday. Installed Sunday and all is good. I highly recommend Appliance Parts Pros, this is the second time I've ordered and both times order came before expected. 

Followed your instructions and replaced the handle. Luckily I had the right driver head or that would have been the most challenging part
