How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3138838 / 285811 Medium Cam Agitator Repair Kit

I bought the appropriate parts from you and watched the video that you provided. I installed the parts on my washing machine and it went exactly as in the video and it only took me about 15 minutes to complete the repairs. Saving me a lot of money. Thanks for everything!!! 

Took out the top of the agitator and replace the cam and the dogs. 

I first read the possible problem descriptions in https://www.appliancepartspros.com. I then removed the parts to confirm. The cap was stuck but still removable. Good idea to put just a touch of grease when putting it back. As described as the most likely issue, the "agitator dogs" were worn. The website gives the option to purchase only the dogs, but given that the other plastic parts were so old and must have been worn at the same time, I've decided to purchase a complete repair kit. Problem: I could not find the appliance model number on the clothes washer... Which one of the 3 repair kits do I need? Short, medium, or long??? I wish the description would include the length. From the pictures, the only part that looked different is the white/translucent cam. Solution: a small size, the faint number is visible on the old cam. This number was listed only in one of the "Cross Reference Information" descriptions: the Medium Kit. That is what I ordered. Purchased the normal delivery. Received it early on the second day. It took less than 10 minutes to install. This repair was really an easy one, thanks to the video and good information provided by AppliancePartsPros.com. 

Replaced upper thrust washer and dog repair kit and it worked fine. 

I fixed the agitator by looking at some videos on the internet and decided I was going to fix the problem myself. Which I did, thanks to the commercial on the site telling me where to get the part. 

I checked the internet and found videos from AppliancePartsPros.com and determined what my possible problems were so I took it apart and sure enough I found the problem, the washer motor had a direct drive ( no belt) and the coupling was damaged. When I disconnected the motor and the capacitor wires, I noticed that the capacitor appeared to be coming apart, I mean the guts pulled out and were loose so I decided to replace that part also. The agitator dogs located within the top section of the agitator were damaged and in pieces so these were also replaced. My recommendation is to watch the videos and go from there.

Replaced cogs in upper agitator. It was so easy with your video. Your service was outstanding. 

Bought an agitator kit from this site watched video and figured it out. I was looking at $200hr repair bill and finished the project in 20 minutes myself! 

Followed the video which is all I needed. The hardest part was getting the bolt out. Even after soaking the bolt in WD 40 overnight it still would not come out. You have to hold the lower agitator while removing the bolt. I attached a wood clamp with plastic jaws to the lower agitator. I then used a length of pipe, inserted a punch into the pipe. The punch fit into the holes in the bottom of the washer basket. I could then hold the basket/lower agitator stationary while I applied torque to the bolt. The rest was easy. This is the fifth time I have repaired this washing machine. Always something different. I love all the trouble shooting info you have. This has saved me bunches of money. Wish more things could be repaired!
