Jacob R Parker , CO December 18, 2016 Appliance: Whirlpool Undercounter Dishwasher WDT770PAYM0 Diverter motor and grommet leak Saw leak from diverter motor while machine was running. After removing and reading others same issue, purchased new grommet (accessed from inside machine tub as key cause of leak) and diverter motor (from under machine, had one corroded connection upon inspection so decided to replace since machine was already out). Reassembled, and problem solved. Was not as difficult as I thought, and for less than $100 total cost, was more economical than buying a new dishwasher! Diagram on appliance pros website was perfect. Parts arrived quickly. Read More... 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Nut Drivers, Pliers, Screwdrivers
Richard B Centreville , VA December 13, 2022 Appliance: KitchenAid Dishwasher KDTE254ESS1 Diverter motor/seal leak. It was easy to identify this problem, you will see water dripping from the center of the tub when looking underneath. After watching the APP videos, this was a rather easy repair despite my setup being different. The only odd tool needed is the Torx 15 screwdriver. Other than that, just following the steps, I had it done in a little over an hour and fixed the problem. A few pointers: 1. Check with a mirror before you take out the dishwasher and you should be able to see the clamp on the drain motor. If it appears to be a compression clamp, or even not sure, get the screw clamp. 2. Take a picture of your setup beforehand so you know the proper placement of the motors and wiring harnesses. 3. Not sure I needed the diverter motor, but will say it is redesigned from the original. 4. Use water and liquid soap before installing the rubber seals. 5. The sump can be installed incorrectly. Make sure you line up the pin with the corresponding hole. Kevin A Rochester , NY August 22, 2022 Appliance: Kenmore Undercounter Dishwasher 66512813K311 Leaking through diverter motor Water was pouring out the bottom of the diverter motor and best I could tell it was leaking down the shaft between it and the seal in the bottom of the tub. I ordered the diverter motor, then realized the seal does not come with it....that is part of the basin, which I didn't want to spend another $125+ on, plus the time of taking everything off the bottom of the dishwasher if I didn't need to. Unfortunately I could not find the seal by itself either. Got the diverter motor and was pleasantly surprised that the shaft on it is about 125% of the diameter of the old one which increases the interference (despite how that sounds that is a good thing here) with the seal and now the seal works! No leaks! I am assuming the seal had worn over time and now the larger shaft fills the gap and put force between it and the sealing lip. They must have realized this and started making diverter motors with large shafts for repairs. Replacing the diverter motor was a 15 minute job. Pulling the dishwasher out, lifting it up high enough so I could see where it was leaking from, that was the rest of the 1-2 hours it took me. John C Springfield , PA May 24, 2021 Appliance: Model WHIRLPOOL Water leaking from underneath the dishwasher where diverter goes into sump Couldn't figure out where water was coming from at first as all hoses were in tact. I test ran dishwasher and figured out that it was coming out directly underneath middle of Sump. I Watched video and replaced Sump and Diverter Motor, and NO MORE LEAKS! Diverter motor was absolutely shot and the gasket and entry on the Sump were rough. Took a few hours on a Saturday afternoon, but video made things fairly easy. I'm a DIYer, so replacing things wasn't too bad. Be sure to be safe and cut power to the unit before working on it. My unit is hard wired, so I had to disassemble the power wires and completely reinstall. Very satisfied with this site and the experience. Very happy now! Brent C Glenwood , MN May 29, 2020 There was no water coming through the washer arms in the dishwasher I did a little research on the internet and determined that it was most likely the pump motor that was not working. I purchased a new pump motor and replaced it. I watched the how-to video on the AppliancePartsPros pump motor page for the steps to replace the old pump motor. The repair went smoothly and worked as expected. Read More... 1 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Pliers, Screwdrivers
Joe C Owasso , OK April 24, 2020 Appliance: KitchenAid Dishwasher KDTE254EWH2 Leaking diverter motor It was a fairly easy repair. My dishwasher had the permanent hose clamps on the pump motor’ hose so fitting a Dremel tool with a cutting blade in the tight area where the hose is mounted was a small challenge. The replacement screw clamps purchased along with the other parts fit fine. I wasn’t sure that I couldn’t have just gotten auto store clamps, but after seeing how and where they fit in a hose with molded connection points and alignment protrusions I was glad I bought these. The advice on the videos about wetting the seals to lubricate and assist with installation isn’t just a suggestion. I don’t think I could have gotten the sump seated without that seal being wet. The diverter motor has two torx screws holding it on. That’s noted in the video but you should be sure that tool is available before starting the repair. Wesley T Rexford , NY February 20, 2019 Appliance: Whirlpool Undercounter Dishwasher WDT790SAYB2 Leaking through the diverter Replaced the diverter and sump. Be careful of the clamps for the sump drain hose. Ours was one used and I needed to purchase new clamps as well after replacing the sump. Actually, right now, they are help on by cable ties until my new clamps come in. Patrick P Melbourne , FL November 25, 2025 Appliance: Whirlpool Undercounter Dishwasher WDT790SLYM1 Water leak under bottom center of unit I used AppliancePartsPros.com website to determine the part that was leaking and ordered the parts. Appliance Parts Pros also had video on how to change the part repair the unit. Made it extremely simple. Simply pull out dishwasher, flip on back, disconnect drain hose, (clean up water) remove and replace Diverter Motor, reassemble and reinstall machine under cabinet. Holiday weekend and I was able to completely repair the machine in less than an hour. Purchased a second related part that had a broken tab, just to make it 100% correct again. Bad news for spouse, no new dishwasher today! Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Adjustable Wrench, Pliers, Screwdrivers
