How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009605 / WP500121 Dryer Glide Felt Pad

My dryer was working but really noisy and had been for a very long time. I thought it might need a new belt or drum rollers. I finally decided to tackle the project. I checked this site and ordered all the parts I thought I might need to quiet it, including belt, drum rollers and glides, and a tension pulley assembly. Two days after I ordered the parts, while drying a load of laundry, amid the roar of the tumbler, I heard a CLUNK, and the tumbler stopped tumbling altogether. The parts were already on their way and arrived a day earlier than expected. I discovered the tension pulley wheel had come completely apart. I replaced it as well as the belt, rollers and glides. The most difficult part of the repair was actually getting the retaining clips off the drum rollers since I didn’t have the proper tool for that. My 13 year old dryer is working again and quieter than it’s been in a very long time.

REPLACED SUPPORT ROLLERS WITH NEW THRUST SPACERS, IDLER PULLEY, FRONT DRUM GUIDES ALONG WITH THE FELT PADS AND ALTHOUGH THE BELT STILL HAD SOME LIFE IN IT, REPLACED IT WHILE I HAD THE UNIT APART. RUNS MUCH QUIETER NOW. MY LOCAL PARTS HOUSE WAS OUT OF SOME OF THE PARTS AND WAY OVERPRICED ON THE BELT SO APPLIANCEPARTSPROS.COM IS MY GO TO PLACE AND HAS BEEN ON OTHER PROJECTS, AND THE PARTS ARRIVED 2 DAYS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! 

We replaced the dryer belt, both drum support rollers, both drum glides, both dryer glide felt pads and the belt tension pulley. While these replacement parts did not entirely eliminate the banging noise, they did however reduce the sound to an acceptable level. 

After doing some research on Internet and taking apart my dryer, I found the problem. Thanks to AppliancePartsPros.com and the easy model search, I found the parts I needed. I can't say enough good things about this company, they saved me hundreds of dollars ! The fix was easy and fast. 

I took it apart and found that the glides had failed and had also worn into the bracket that holds the glides. This was the rubbing, grinding sound. Ordered the replacement parts and got them the following day. Our dryer was back running normal again. 

Replaced drum support wheels , drum glides. Motor pulley and belt tension pulley. Last I put new belt on. And in 2006 I paid 509.00. Replacement parts cost around 125.00. Runs like brand new. Parts came in two days standard. Oh and you do not have to replace motor. Can get motor pulley separate for around twenty five dollars. Manufacture say 

I looked at what other people where saying with similar problems and decided to change the belt, tensioner pulley, felt pads, and drum glides. They all needed changed. The belt tension pulley roller didn't turn easily as it should, the belt was starting to form cracks, etc. After repair, no more noise, I'm sure the motor didn't have to work near as hard, and clothes dried much quicker. 

I bought 5 parts and it's working great! Hubby fix it. 

Looked up my dryer model and Google brought me here. Watched the video on how to repair it and being a handy-man I thought I'd open it up and take a look. Sure enough, 1 drum roller support was worn out. I ordered both roller supports (if one is bad, the other's not far behind), both drum roller axles, noticed that the dryer glide felt pads were missing, so I ordered those along with the drum glides, and figured since the dryer is 12 years old I might as well put a new belt on it, too. I placed the order after 5PM on Monday and my parts arrived Wednesday. Replacing the parts took about half an hour, and now it sounds like it did when it was new!! Thanks Appliance Parts Pros for having such a great instructional video and for prompt delivery! I will definitely order from you again when I need parts for my appliances! 

Took apart the unit following the helpful videos. It is pretty straightforward. Replaced all parts that could be the cause as the replacements were relatively inexpensive (rollers, belt, felt (completely missing when I opened it up) and glide). Hardest part was the snap rings. I bought a pair of snap ring pliers but the holes were too small. Had to resort to using two corkscrews - not ideal but got it to work. I did notice the glide bracket has weakened and bends - will monitor but may need to replace. Currently the unit is working very well.
