How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009605 / WP500121 Dryer Glide Felt Pad

My dryer was stopping after about 10 to 15 minutes of running in both automatic and timed cycles. To confirm it was the motor and not an overheating issue, I turned the dryer on a no-heat cycle....and the dryer did the same thing. At this point, between the noises, and inconsistencies in dryer run time reducing, plus the help of Appliance Parts Pros website...I was confident that it was most likely the motor. I bought the parts and was able to replace the motor and belt. This appliance is about 25 years old at this point, and it is a workhorse. The only bit of advice I could offer is I had to soak the blower connection to the motor shaft with WD40...and used about 150 lbs of my bodyweight to break the blower free. All working. Great video help and parts. Take pics of the wiring connections as you go as well. 

Replaced rollers, glides, felt, and belt.

I followed the video on the website to open up the dryer and replaced the drum glide and pad. I then put it all back together plugged it back in and it is running fine again. Thank you for the videos because they sure are helpful in doing the repair. 

Replaced the drum glides, brackets and felt. Paid for 2 day delivery but parts arrived in less than 24 hours! 

Replaced rear rollers, front drum glides with felt, belt tensioner pulley, and belt. 

Replaced both rear rollers, replaced the felt and front wear slides on the front of the machine. Replaced the damaged tensioner pulley and belt. The entire job took about 45 minutes! 

The dryer slowly began not tumbling with increasingly lighter loads. It was tumbling so slowly that the contents would group together forming a "sausage" shape. Popped into this web site, entered my dryer's model number and was happy to be presented with buttons depicting common ailments to this model. I clicked on the "Not tumbling" option and the page loaded with the most likely cause at the top, followed by causes in decreasing likelihood underneath. This was very helpful. I chose to replace the belt, the belt tensioner, and the two small felt pieces that had disappeared over time. The web site included videos showing how to disassemble and repair various items - a fantastic addition to the web site! Having watched each of the videos, I found it easy to do the repair. The dryer is now back up and tumbling just fine. The repairs cost about $65; about a tenth of what replacing the faulty dryer with a low-end new one would have cost. My repair time was longer as I added the time to clean out the dryer, the exhaust vent exiting up through the roof, the area around the dryer, and since I elevate my appliances for easier access, there was additional time raising and lowering the dryer. This web site was a gold mine of info - thank you!! 

Replaced rollers, glides, and idler lever. Cleaned interior and blew off the motor. Verified the motor was spinning freely. Idler lever wheel was almost seized and likely the source of squeal. The glides were also worn and the felt was gone. Rollers were so-so, but it was cheap enough to put them on while they were exposed. Spring clip pliers are a must if replacing the rollers. 

Replaced rollers, slides with felt pads and drive belt. I also lubricated the idler pulley. Also cleaned the inside of the dryer. The repair took 1 1/2 hours of easy work.
