How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009605 / WP500121 Dryer Glide Felt Pad

Thermal Fuse-open circuit identified the need to replace Roller/thrust washer replacement- old oil on the shaft became thick graphite on the new rollers and replaced worn thrust washers. Dryer guides- worn and replaced. Felt gasket- Leaked by and was replaced. The video was the key to cracking most of the codes/projects. 

Found belt tension idler worn down to the bushing, found the drum rollers stiff and hard to turn, found belt worn and starting to crack. Ordered all of these plus front slide pads. Replaced and now feel confident the dryer will run without problems. Absolutely need a pair of snap-ring pliers for this job. I used a high temp grease on the roller shafts, some info on what lubrication is recommended would be good. While dryer is disassembled, clean/vacuum all the lint from the cabinet, motor, blower, heaters. Took more time to clean dryer than to replace parts. 

Installer new ignitor. While at it replaced following maintenance items ; drum rollers.glides,felts, belt, belt idler arm ass"y. Also thorough cleaning. 

Found this site, watch videos on how to disassemble and repair. Then, disassembled to check on what was needed. Belt was frayed because of a seized tension pulley. Then, I reassembled so it could be used until parts arrived. I decided to do an "overhaul" of all the parts that can wear out including belt, tensioner pulley, drum support rollers, drum glides, and glide felt pads. I figured that, as long as I am taking it apart, I might as well do it all. The parts arrive in 3 days. So, I disassembled the dryer again (easy job), replaced all the parts, and reassembled. I wish I had brought the tensioner pulley bare instead of buying the entire tensioner assemble. I thought that would be easier, but the blind nut used to attach the assembly is nearly impossible to get started during the reinstall. Small hands are needed. The dryer works like new now. Spend $65 instead of $750 for a new dryer! The videos and information on this site made all the difference. They tell you exactly how to fix it. Even opening the top of the dryer is a mystery until you see the video. The putty knife trick is a life saver! I'm a VERY satisfied customer.
