How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6023956 / WPW10730972 Water Pump

After Diagnosing the problem, I got online to AppliancePartsPros.com to find my part and get it ordered up. I ordered this part on a early Friday afternoon and was told at checkout that I could expect the part on Monday. Much to my surprise and delight, the part was on our doorstep by noon the next day!! AWESOME!!! 

Replaced the drain hose and pump 

Pulled the bottom panel off whirlpool duet, opened the filter to see black inky nastiness, bad smell. Removed the pump and took apart the housing to expose impeller and it was crooked and leaking the black substance, replaced using aftermarket pump. Put it back together the same way it came apart. Tested using load once reinstalled and worked perfectly. 

Replaced pump with help from the awesome video! Almost purchased new washer first $1,000! Decided to “try” the repair first. Works like a champ! Hope to get another 20 years out of it!!! 

I replaced the drain pump. This was the second time I’ve had to do this; the first was five years ago so I had some experience with the operation. 

When I opened the pump coin catch there were a few coins but no blockage, so I looked inside the pump and saw the shaft was bent (not repairable) so I ordered the part and replaced it. Would have been faster repair but all at ground level and hard to see. The pump assembly was different than the original but all mounts and wiring harness fit perfectly. Thanks!

Purchased replacement water pump motor - follows on-line video provided by Appliance Parts Pros - all work done in about 40 minutes. Seems to work well - a bit louder than before but well worth the effort vs. a new machine! 

Replaced the water pump and everything seems to work fine now. 

I removed and replaced the drain pump.
