The Water Pump is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. It plays a key pump function by introducing water into the wash tub. Proper water circulation is necessary for effective cleaning.

Symptoms of a faulty pump include:

  • Slow or no water filling during wash cycles
  • Water leaks or drips due to cracked pump housing
  • Loud grinding or knocking noises during operation
  • Error codes for water fill related issues

Causes of pump failure can be due to regular usage over time, mineral buildup inhibiting flow inside the pump, or cracks developing in the plastic housing exposing internal components to corrosion.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Pump (Part Number: OEM18071877)

Hello Uncle Ernie, You will need to run a diagnostic test to determine what fault code has been set in the control. This is done in the following manner: Starting Service History Mode & Diagnostic Test: NOTE: The washer must be empty and the control must be in the OFF state before pressing the touch-pad sequence to start the test. 1. Close the door. 2. Select any three different keys (except POWER). Individually press these in a sequence of 1, 2, 3 and then repeat this sequence two more times. This sequence must be completed within 8 seconds of the first keypress. These three keys are referred to as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd keys, based on the order pressed. 3. Upon entry into service diagnostics, the console will beep (if available) and all console LED lights will turn on for 5 seconds. 4. Any error codes will be displayed in the Estimated Time Remaining display. If there are no error codes stored, 88 will be displayed. On models without a display, the WASH LED will flash to indicate the error code. If there are no error codes stored, the WASH LED remains on. NOTE: This program recalls the most recent error code first. 5. After entry into service diagnostics using the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd keys, each of these keys will have unique functions regarding service diagnostics. You will need to pull the tech sheet from the plastic bag affixed to the inside of the front panel to determine what codes are detected.

Charlotte, Your washer has 2 controls. One is the ccu and is mounted under the top panel on the right side looking down from the front. The other is located underneath the tub in the bottom cavity on the left side if looking in from the front. The error code is from a communication error between the two controls. [They can't talk to each other] Possible causes are the wire harness between the two controls or a damaged control. Most often the damaged control turns out to be the motor control unit located underneath. We usually find a burnt spot on the plastic housing when the control is removed. We will email you the page in the tech sheet for the error code and what connectors to check.

Michael Goldston for Model Number Kenmore 110.47532602

In order to install the front right shock absorber, I removed the pump assembly. This greatly improves there access to this shock absorber. While inspecting the pump assembly, I discovered lint and other material stuck in backside of the pump and removed this debris. I would like to remove the cap to inspect front cavity, but I am unsure of the procedure and do not want to damage the pump. The cover plate appears to twist off in the ccw direction. Do I just need to apply more force? Thank you.

1 Answer

Michael, Yes the pump cover will just unscrew and may just be stuck so using more force may be necessary.

Mark, based on the model number you provided, the video accurately describes how to remove and install the drain pump, there is a rubber tab at the bottom that is lifted up and then you move the pump assembly to the right to remove it.

Ive got a Maytag Epic Z Front Load Washer. When it gets to the spin cycle it stops as if the cycle is done.No error codes on the display just a locked door. It leaves the machine full of water. Only error code we get is earlier in cycle, and SD code. AT that point is adds water and within a few minutes clears until failing at the spin cycle. I checked the filter at the drain and found it all clogged up. I cleaned it out, put my finger in around the entry to the drain pump itself which felt clear. Started machine again but ultimately it failed at the same point. If I turn machine back on and just try to run a spin cycle, the tub doesnt spin and I can hear the drain pump buzzing. If I empty the water our manually it will spin but if you run a full wash again it fails without emptying washer. Could this be a faulty drain pump?

1 Answer

Hello Aaron, the code refers to a SudsDetect fault, meaning the control board has tried to run the drain pump and is still detecting a full tub of water which prevents spin cycle from occurring. You would need to check the tub to drain pump hose for any obstructions, also if it is clear it may be a drain pump problem. If you repost your question after doing that check with the model number we would be able to advise you with the drain pump part number.

Hello Asron, if you remove the front lower service panel there is a small interlock switch held in by that panel that will need to be held in. Run the washer in a drain/spin cycle and check for 120v at the drain pump using a multimeter.

Lee, unfortunately the filter [8540996] is no longer available separately. The coin catch filter is only available from the manufacturer as part of the pump assembly [WPW10730972].

Guy, It would be recommended to check for clogs in the water pump and drain lines to make sure that it is not just clogged up. If this checks ok then the issue will be caused by a faulty drain pump.

Our whirlpool diet steam front load washer display a f21 message. We clean the pump filter it did not work. We do think we need to replace the pump. However when we were running the washer to test after cleaning the filter, the wash cycle stopped and the door stayed locked. How do I unlock the door. We unplug the washer and let it rest and plug it again. We have used this method before and now it is not working. I cannot order the pump part because I do not know the model number because I cannot open the door. Pressing the button to unlock does not work either.

Daisy, If there is a lower front panel you would remove this panel and reach up there will be a tab on the bottom of the lock that you would pull to release the lock.

Hello Kevin, This sounds like normal operation since the drain pump will make a surging noise when it runs out of water to pump and it hits air pockets. If the clothes are excessively wet you should check the shocks, suspension springs, and check the unit for proper leveling.
