How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6008371 / WP339956 Lint Screen Housing Foam Seal

After researching online what my dryer was doing, I disassembled it and also noted other worn parts. Using the schematic on your web site. I ordered all necessary parts. They arrived in 5 days and I had the dryer back running in an hour. 

Ordered new parts. Clicked them in place. 

First of all , I tore it down to look at it internally to see what it might need as it was very noisy and drying time was getting to be a very lengthy process . I ordered the parts that appeared to be worn out and replaced them . I still may need to order another part or two but after replacing the parts that I ordered , the dryer is operating 100% better . 

Replaced the dryer seals it was very easy dryer works much better now. 

Checked it out and found a roller for dryer drum had broke. ordered a dryer repair kit to fix the noise issue. Figured I would go ahead and replace heating element and lint trap foam seal while it was apart. working as it should quietly 

Dryer motor was bad, so motor was needed to be replaced. So I ordered new motor, blower wheel, and insulation. I strongly recommend to get blower wheel when replacing the motor. Not easy to take wheel off, I had to drill out from outside and break off the wheel for the motor to be able to come out from inside. And I also strongly suggest to clean/vacuum all the lints from everywhere and replaced the insulation to prevent any lints building up inside the dryer which could be what caused the motor to fail. 

Replace thermal fuse. 

Replaced Rear drum support rollers, eliminated banging and thumping from damaged bearings. Replaced foam seal around blower housing and lint screen housing. Bought parts from AppliancePartsPros.com. Cost was about 1/3 of Sear's price for parts. Delivery was in a little over 24 hours. 

Replaced all seals and the dryer works great. 

I chose to replace the belt idler pulley as well as the belt. I also decided to take a few extra minutes to clean the air chute and fan, so I replace those foam gaskets at the same time. If I was doing the repair again, I think I would order the plastic retainers for the drum support rollers, so that I could have removed them to clean the shafts as well. On such an old machine it would be impossible to remove those plastic retainers without snapping them. Appliance Parts Pros has all this in stock. A 6 in 1 screwdriver was all I needed, as it had the proper size nutdriver as part of the shaft. The longest part of the job was cleaning everything on this 30 year old dryer. Sounds like new again.
