How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5985209 / W10822553 Shock Absorber

Our washing machine is about 20 years old, didn’t have a problem till last year, started violently shaking on final spin forced the door now won’t lock. I opened it to check internally and three suspension had cracked and snapped. Ordered app suspension and lock locking mechanism they’ve suggested. Installing was very simple thanks to their video support made everything easy. Thank you appliance parts pros! Now my washing runs like new! no shaking and spin flawlessly, very happy 

Change pump and shock absorber 

WATCHED A FEW VIDEOS AND CONCLUDED THAT IT WAS THE SHOCK ABSORBERS, UPON GAINING ACCESS TO THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE UNIT I FOUND THAT ALL FOUR SHOCKS WERE DISENGAGED AND BROKEN, YOUR REPLACEMENT SHOCKS WERE THE PERFECT MATCH AND NOW THE WASHER IS RUNNING FINE 

Put 4 new shocks and a new washer drive belt 

Checked the leveling feet, then checked them again. The next thing up on the checklist was 4 new shocks, which did the trick. The springs were fine (not broken.) Getting them out was a real bear, I could get one clip out but had to resort to using a pipe wrench to break out the old shocks. New ones snapped right in. Oh and guys watch out for the grease, if you get that on the laundry room rug your wife is gonna yell at you too. 

Replaced the shock absorbers 

I replaced the Shock Absorber, Tub Gasket, and Drive Belt. 

Added a fourth shock absorber that wasn't installed. 

Replace both springs, found front shocks sheared off from drum assembly. Replaced all shocks, everything works as advertised. 

2 shock absorbers and door latch busted due to intense vibration. Washer "walked" 2 feet. Replaced all shocks and door latch. Video's were highly valuable but not what I experienced. Shocks on video have 2 clips to engage which the video showed enough room to toggle with a small screwdriver. My washer (the same in video) only had 2 inches on the front shocks to work with. Since I was replacing, it was easier to use an adjustable wench to twist and break plastic mounts instead. Saved loads of time. Video on door latch had technician accessing through washer boot. I felt that boot could easily rip and opted instead to access latch from the top of machine. Wiring had a memory which facilitated plugging plugs back in! Could include these tips in video.
