How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012281 / WP8268961 Dishwasher Door Hinge Friction Pad

Ordered replacements at appliance parts pros. Received and installed replacement Door is stable. 

I ordered two friction pads from Appliance Part Pros.com and installed them so that now the door will stay open in any position. It was a little more difficult to install the pads as shown in the video. 

SUPER easy fix. Just remove 2 screws that attach the dishwasher to the counter, pull out a few inches, and remove the spring by hand. I watched a Youtube video first, but it is really an obvious repair if you compare one side of the dishwasher to the other. I didn't even kill power to the dishwasher. (Maybe I should have? seemed like overkill) 

I watched the video. Then went to work. It took less than 5 minutes to put the new friction pads on, close the door, and viola......done! Wonderful videos, wonderful company. Better than having an appliance repair person come to the home. You have always been there for me for each repair. Thank you so much for standing by the products you sell and answering questions with your wonderful customer service. Well done! You are the BEST in the business. I am a 62-year-old woman and if I can do it...so can everyone else! 

The pieces bought worked perfectly. The door now stays where we want it to be. 

Replaced both springs and rubber friction pads (one pad had already broken off). This fix required removing the unit from under the counter in order to reach the spring mount points. The only issue is the new springs have an overall length that is longer than the originals. The coils are the same length but the one of the hook ends is longer. So I now have the hook in the farthest slot (max tension) and even with the new friction pads, the door still drops to full open once it is a short distance from the fully closed position....not what I was hoping for.

I reviewed the parts lists for my dishwasher to determine & order the parts needed - 2 rubber pieces that control the door release. The video at AppliancePartsPros.com confirmed the fix to be easy to install, so I did it myself in about 15 minutes total, including putting tools away. The only (slight) difficulty was the strength needed to remove & replace the springs - pliers helped. 

I watched several YouTube videos to determine what the problem was and how to fix it. After receiving the friction pads from AppliancePartsPros.com I slid the dishwasher out of its position under the cabinet (the hardest part) removed the door springs and installed the pads. I experimented with the best position/resistance for the springs and slid the dishwasher back into place. The repair was completed and the wife is happy.
