How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012319 / WP8270020 Door Balance Spring

Disconnected power, water supply, and drain hose. Pulled unit, replaced parts, reinstalled. 

Found the correct parts on AppliancePartsPros.com. Watched the video before ordering parts. Once parts received, watched the videos again. Installed all parts in 1 hour. 

After receiving new spring and links, watched online video for guidance. Repair was as simple as following the video instruction. 

Removed dishwasher from under kitchen counter per AP video and replaced door balance link kit and spring (although none of the springs were broken. You may want to consider a drain hose also a mine had shown several places with excessive wear. The parts were delivered in 2 days and arrived on a Sunday to boot. Great fast service from A.P.P. 

Thanks to AppliancePartsPros.com, the video was very helpful and the parts needed were received quickly. With the parts in hand and the knowledge gained from the video, it was a piece of cake to remove 2 screws to allow me to pull out the dishwasher, 2 more screws to remove the bottom front cover, disconnect the drain & water and unplug the electrical. The unit slide right out and access to the springs and pulleys were right there. The link (string looking piece) on the right side was clearly broken. I was intent on replacing everything on both sides for the door balance. Not that it is hard to pull out the dishwasher, but the less I have to pull it out the better. The pulley assemblies looked worn, so I was happy to replace them. The old springs looked fine, but springs don't show much before they fail, so it was good to replace those as well. With the new parts in place, slide the dishwasher back in, screwed the 4 screws back, voila...all done! 

Removed and replace all parts. 

Used the ordered and delivered parts. Installed parts, washer is in and working 

Replaced spring on one side (hook broken off), replaced rope pulleys both sides (one broken), replaced strings both sides (none broken), also replaced tub wheel (one broken) on upper basket 

I came to APP, looked at the exploded view, easily found what I needed for both issues, ordered them and the parts arrived in a day and a half. I, maybe the most inept mechanical person on earth, was able to take the adjusters apart, paying close attention to the order in which they came off and fixed them in about 35 minutes. I left the door pulley system to my husband because of electrical and plumbing steps. After he got everything taken apart, replacing the parts were easy enough. It was the taking apart and putting back together that was most time consuming. But now, with 132.00 in parts, it's all fixed. I don't even want to know what a service call would have cost. Thank you APP for the parts, fair and comparable prices, exploded views and most of all the videos that accompany so many of your parts. It's not the first time I've ordered from you and it won't be last. THANK YOU! 

Disconnect services to the dishwasher, and pull the dishwasher out to gain access to the sides where the spring, cable, roller assembly is. Removed the old spring, cable, roller assembly to installed the new one. All worked well, although the roller assembly was slightly different than what was on the machine. But functionally, it was the same and it did work. I just needed a second screw for mounting the roller piece. Pushed the dishwasher back into place. The door closure dampening work perfectly. Was really helpful that APP had a go-by video on this exact repair.
