Apparently the year 2012 Kenmore is a little different from the Whirlpool in design, because the video on how to replace the tie-rods shows a nice lip to hang the front rods on once taken out of the bearing cup. This is before you lay the washer down to push/ pull the tie rod out. At one point I even had the lid locked down with displaced tie rod since it accidentally hooked on it since you can’t really see.
It’s not anything that can’t be overcome with patience, but on this Kenmore it was a lot trickier than shown on the video since I had to replace only 2 tie rods at a time since the front ones have no place to hook. If not locked the basket can fall out of place when tipped on its back. Also, the springs attached in the back to the tie rod aren’t shown how to attach to the washing machine. I had to lift the top plastic cover of the basket up to slide the spring on over the rod. It’s not obvious at first, but only way to attach.
The plastic bearing also wants to slide on you when turning the spring to 90 degrees to lock in place. If you’re not careful it will spin the rod out of the bottom tab that holds the rod close to the bearing ball center. Make sure you wear a rubber glove so the rod doesn’t slide down from tie rod spring pressure trying to get this correct. It’s not absolutely necessary, but it would make it easier for a first time DIY’er.
It’s any easy fix once you get everything set up correctly, so good luck and hope this helps.
