How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012742 / WP8318084 Washer Lid Switch

When this model Maytag won’t start, the chances are better than nine in ten that the problem is the lid switch. I removed the console and removed the connector to the lid switch. A quick resistance check of the switch indicated failure. Order and received replacement lid switch. Machine is now up and running. 

After looking at other stories, slowly lifted the lid while listening and heard nothing. Decided the lid switch wasn't working. Opened the switch section (two screws) and noted that the lid switch showed signs of burning. Ordered a new switch from AppliancePartsPros and it took about ten minutes to install the switch and put the switch section back on. Everything worked. 

One 5/16 socket for ground screw; Phillips screw driver for appliance control panel (two screws). Remove broken switch and snap in new one. 

I replaced all the springs, the counterbalance was missing I also replaced the tub suspension pads it was very easy to do after watching the help videos 

Google brought me to this website. I watched the video and figured despite not being terribly handy I could handle this repair. Thanks to Appliance Parts Pros I didn't have to spend a fortune to diagnose and fix the problem. Thank you. 

Ordered replacement lid switch and installed it by following the instructions in the video on this site. Very easy! 

My washer is a 16 year old Kenmore Elite, and after calling a few repair places, found it would either take a long time or they no longer worked on Kenmores. The video was so helpful instructing me to find the switch, and then I could see your part looked exactly like my broken one. So for $39 plus shipping (got here in two days on a Sunday!) I had it fixed in seriously, maybe 5 minutes!!

I looked it up on line and found that it was probably the lid switch. I ordered it and it came the next day. I installed the new switch, which was very easy to install by watching the video. It’s working like new again. I’m thankful I didn’t have to call someone out to repair it.
