How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012742 / WP8318084 Washer Lid Switch

Replaced the switch and the washer is working fine now. 

I purchased a lid switch and watched the YouTube video. I fixed it in less than 30 minutes, start to finish! I've ordered parts from and watched YouTube videos from Appliance Parts Pros multiple times, they're my go to for appliance repair. 

Replaced lid switch and vacuum breaker. 

I read another forum which described what my machine had done when it quit. It was the lid switch. It took less than 15 minutes to repair and was a $35 repair( I had the shipped overnight!). Really awesome as o couldn't afford a new machine in these times! 

It was a quick fix, popped out old damaged one and put in new part. 

Unfortunately, based on other info, replaced the $165 time first which was not the issue. Then the $26 lid switch. It is a very easy matter to check the lid switch as the top of the switch pops off making a visual inspection very easy. In my case there was definite issues with contacts getting hot and discoloration of the surrounding plastic making it evident that was the problem. 

We found a video on line through your site. It perfectly depicted our issue. We ordered the part. It came in 2 days. We were able to follow the video, put in the new part and wow!! It worked! This was a godsend! It’s not everyday you have to fix a washing machine on your own in a global pandemic! I would recommend your website to everyone. We are so thankful. 

We used your helpful videos, diagnosed and ordered a lid switch. It arrived quickly, as promised and we easily replaced..nothing happened! My wife reminded me to turn on the water! ??. We filled the washer....nothing happened. It would not spin or agitate. Then I remembered I forgot to plug in the wiring harness to the switch! Now it’s working wonderfully, for only the cost of the part and expedited shipping! Thank you! 

Replaced it with a new one. 

Washer was old/used when we got it. Figured that since I'll be having it apart anyways. Might as well change what I can, lot cheaper and it can fit in my time frame and schedule. Used clutch drive, coupler and a new lid switch from appliance parts pros. The videos helped me understand what would need to be done.
