How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3094224 / 279769 Dryer Thermal Cut-Off Kit

After doing some trouble shooting I found that the thermal cutoff fuse was bad. I called APP.com and they hooked me up with the thermal cutoff kit. When my parts arrived they were all crushed, I think FED EX danced a jig or two all over my packages in the back of the truck. APP.com swiftly got replacements out to me. The install was a breeze. Thanks for all your help APP.com. 

I removed the front of the dryer to allow access to the heater tube with the thermal switches. Measuring the resistance, the thermal cutoff (high limit switch) was open. I bought the kit with the two components and installed them. I removed the heater tube for inspection of the element and ease of replacing the parts. Works fine now. 

I replaced it, as well as, replaced hi limit and cycling switch to be sure I replaced any part that could be causing the thermostat to fail as a symptom of deeper issue. It's always good to repair every part in a circuit even if only one part failed especially on a heating element circuit. These will catch fire if you bypass a faulty part. 

Killed power (dryer is hard wired). Removed rear panel. Just simply testing with meter found the culprit..a bad temp switch at top of heating element duct. Ordered replacement..installed and back in business...or at least able to dry clothes again. 

Ordered thermal Cut-off Kit and replaced both upper and bottom switches. In all it took less than 15 minutes. Removed the back of the dryer, 5 sheet metal screws to expose the heating element. then removed the lower thermostat, the larger of the two switches. The screws where 1/4 inch nut screws, and then I replaced the upper switch which is the thermal cut off. Be careful with removing the spade electrical connectors. The sheet metal around the switches is very sharp. 

Purchased a thermal cut-off kit. 

Replace Switch new push on connectors, New belt, cleaned. Worked well back in service. Only complaint would be it took a week to get here. Usually delivery is very fast. 

I watched the short video and determined the project should be quite simple. I removed the heating element and determined that the looked quite good. I then ran an ohm test and there were no issues. Did the same for the two sensors; determined one did not pass the test. I canceled the heating element order and placed the order for the sensor kit on Sunday afternoon and received it on Tuesday morning!!! 

Replaced parts I bought thru you 

Took back of dryer off using a 1/4" nut driver. Checked for loose electrical connections. Ran dryer and used my meter along with the wiring diagram on the back of the dry to troubleshoot. Found that the upper thermal cut off was "open" Using a piece of wire I jumped (bypassed) the cut off and started up the dryer again. I had heat. YA! Bought the upper and lower thermal cut off kit because it is likely if the upper one failed the lower one did too. Installed new cycling thermostat for good measure and I know how thermostats fail. Tested unit and I had heat. Put cover back on. Tested again making sure I had good pressure out the back of the unit. Cleaned my metal vent. Hooked of dryer. Tested again. Just a note. I ordered the parts around 4:00 pm. I had the parts the next day by 2:00. Fastest shipping ever. Don't be afraid to try and fix your dryer or equipment. Its already broke. lol
