How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3094224 / 279769 Dryer Thermal Cut-Off Kit

I did a google search on how to fix a gas dryer blowing cold air, and eventually found appliance parts pros.com. I watched a few videos on what could be the problem, then bought an electricity tester. I took off the back panel, cleaned the lint filter and removed its housing and checked it, couldn’t see how to use the tester from the video so went to Home Depot and asked. Came home and tested, and the fuse and thermostat were fine, but the high limit control was bad. I got the model number for the machine, and it wasn’t an Admiral like mine, but a Maytag dryer, looked different, and the part I had didn’t match. So I did a search under the name of the part, and found one that looked identical in the photo. I took a chance and bought it for $35 (it came with another part which I didn’t see in my machine.) The part came a few days later, I hooked it up, tested, and it worked! Plugged the dryer in, and after about a minute or two, it kicked in and started blowing warm air again!! Reassembled, and immediately did about six loads of backed up laundry, lol. By the way, I am a 61 year old woman with no knowledge of mechanics nor electricity. The videos were great, and now I feel confident if something else goes wrong, feel I have a passing knowledge. Great website! 

Troubleshooting a dryer isn’t hard when you’re an electrician, always look for continuity between the sensors, overloads and the door switch . My issue was the thermal overload on the heater tube, thanks to APP I got the right parts shipped fast and were a perfect match. Always use your model # to get the right parts

I ordered the part that was recommended on the site and installed it. It worked like a charm. 

Replaced Thermal Cutoff/fuse 

Replace thermal cut off and thermostat. 

I replaced the thermal cutoff kit and a heating element connection wire. Super simple and probably saved me over $100 if I had called a repairman. The videos on your site as well as the customer service person I spoke with were SUPER helpful. Thank you!!! 

I used a multimeter to check the heating coils, thermostats and cutoff fuse for continuity. The thermal cut-off on the heater duct failed. Your website said replacing this part had a high probability of correcting the problem. I put the new part on and the heat worked again. 

Checked element, 10+ ohms Checked thermostat,. 1 ohm Checked fuse, infinite Ordered kit and installed (next time I might remove the heater unit, hands aren't as flexible in my old age it seems) Reasembled, plugged in, tested, works good. Set in place and have the grandkids the go ahead to do the laundry 

Removed and tested all the sensors for continuity found out the thermal cut-off was malfunctioning. Replaced the unit after ordering it from Appliance Parts Pros, hooked everything back up (which was very straightforward), and dryer now works perfectly.
