How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6010137 / WP627985 Refrigerator Icemaker Cycling Thermostat

After finding out the cost that we would have to pay for the repair locally, I went to Appliance parts pro.com. with the intention of finding out the cost for parts. We had been quoted $100 for the first hour which included repair if it could be done under the first hour plus parts. And they added that the typical repair for the ice maker was between $200 and $500. Fortunately we are very organized and had the original paperwork of the refrigerator which has all parts and numbers for the parts. Then I watched the repair video and decided that it looked simple enough that we could do it ourselves. Well it was not as easy (for us) as the video but, with a lot of trips to the computer to re-watch the video we got it done and working fine. I recommend that you keep the computer or laptop close to your repair site just in case you need to review the procedure. And make sure to have good light to work. Lily and Arnold 

SO I FIGURED THAT ALL THE MECHANICAL PARTS OF IT WERE FINE SO THE LOGICAL THING TO DO WAS TO REPLACE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WHICH CONSISTED OF THE THERMOSTAT {THE BRAIN} AND THE CONTROL MODULE WHICH I PURCHASED AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE . I REASSEMBLED THE UNIT AND IT HAS BEEN WORKING LIKE NEW EVER SINCE. THANK YOU! 

Ordered all moving parts, received them quickly and rebuilt ice maker. Installed ice maker and within 8 hours it was making ice. 

First replaced the inlet valve, and that wasn't the problem, then replaced the cycling thermostat, and that wasn't the problem, and finally fixed it by replacing the icemaker assembly. The hardest part of the whole project was figuring out how to remove the icemaker for service. I could find no information anywhere. Although I finally figured it out on my own, I wasn't sure I had done it correctly and finally discovered your chat line and was astounded to find how effective and quick the information I needed could have been had. My questioned was answered by your technician who assured me that I had done it correctly. What a great service! 

Using online information about test ports I was able to narrow the problem down to either the thermostat or the motor/control module. To cover my bases I ordered both parts plus the alumilastic adhesive that is needed for the thermostat replacement. Removing this particular icemaker without removing the freezer shelves is a bit of a contortionist job, but it is possible with patience. Indeed, the motor/control module was at fault since one of the heater contacts had burnt/melted. Replaced the module and the thermostat and reinstalled and we were back in business. 

I replaced the cycling thermostat. The info provided was easy to folloaw and the job was quick. Within hours I had a full ice box. 

Purchased Appliance Parts Pros replacement ice maker, removed the defective unit, matched the proper wiring harness using the wiring color codes at the P and J side connectors. Approximately 1 hour following the installation, I delightfully heard the first set of cubes ! 

KitchenAid KFIS25XVMS2 The symptoms of my ice-maker were very similar to some found here. Ultimately, I decided to replace the motor module and thermostat as per the videos associated with the products. While the videos did not show my exact model, the ice-makers were near-identical. The repair was pretty straight forward and now we have ice once again. 

Found the repair guide online & tested per instructions, which indicated a bad thermostat and/or motor. Bought motor unit first and installed. Amazing how easy these are to work on yourself compared to the cost of having a tech do it. Motor unit delivered & starting getting ice but VERY slowly. Since replacing the thermostat is a wee bit more complicated, but now experienced, ordered same together with ice tray which was in bad shape (the tray is coated with a plastic which was disintegrating). Changed out both in about 20 minutes, and all works beautifully now...lots of ice!
