How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6009232 / WP4344659 Thermostat Kit

Replaced it with a kit ordered from this site 

Installed new thermostat. 

I am not exactly a handyman but I thought I would at least give it a try before calling an appliance repair man. Following the instructions it went pretty well. Great feeling hearing the unit start running again when I plugged it in after installing kit. My only recommendation would be to suggest that you wear gloves. You have to get inside the unit to move wiring and all the edges of brackets inside the cooler are razor sharp. I got a couple of nice nicks on my hands. 

Have experienced this problem before, so knew how to diagnose and repair. Ordered the kit, pulled the unit out, replaced it, and replaced the unit in the cabinet. Boom. Would not turn on. Diagnosed that problem to the power cord which had bent 90 degrees against the back wall and was frayed inside. I cut it, removed the frayed section, installed new fittings, taped them, then put the unit back in place. Voila! Fully repaired. 

Ordered thermostat regular shipping, it arrived within 72 hours, i had the cooler repaired and wife happy within 12 hours of arrival. repair itself took about 90 minutes, most of that 90 minutes was removing and then replacing a whole lot of screws to get the back panel off the cooler. the hardest part of the whole endeavor was getting the cooler in and out out of the very tight location it normally sits in. suggest looking at video on u tube before doing this - it is easy (even fun) to repair. this is the second thermostat i have replaced now, the mini fridge downstairs had the same problem about 2 years ago. the only "trick" to all this, is make sure the hole that the thermostat sensor wire goes through in the insulation is big enough for the sensor. if you get any resistance when passing the sensor, get just drill out the hole to make it easier, it is mostly styrofoam, not a big deal. a big wrench makes turning the leveling feet under the cooler much easier than by hand. (i used a plumbing type wrench).
