How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005980 / WP2182179 Refrigerator Door Upper Closure Cam

Replaced door cam. The video tutorial on the product page was very helpful. I would not have thought to simply block the door up so I did not need to remove the door. (I used a scissor jack from my car under a wood slat to support the door). 

I called one of your people at AppliancePartsPros.com and a very nice lady suggested that the problem might be the door cam being worn out. I ordered the right side door jam and it improved the alignment but it was still not correct. I used 4 washers added to the door cam assembly and it helped quite a lot. However I found out that there is a lower and upper part to the door jam system! I have now ordered the upper part and I will remove the washers I mentioned previously. This will correct the alignment and also allow the door to stay in position better when it is opened. The two cam parts work together to hold the door in the proper position when it is opened. I recommend that anyone who wants to do the cam fix, they should order the complete set of 2 cams. The lower and the upper at the bottom right side of the door. Not one at the bottom and one at the top of the door. The set contains 2 cams that work in conjunction with each other. I hope everyone understands my explanation! If not just talk to the ordering person and they will explain it to you. Good luck John Healey 

Ordered the parts, took door off the refrigerator. Removed all parts and replace with new parts. Took me about 15 minutes to complete. 

Everything was fixed perfectly

Saw a YouTube video on a possible door cam issue. Ordered the cam from ApplianceParts Pros and fixed it in under 30 minutes. The door closes like it is brand new. 

Replaced door cams on 2004 refrigerator that were totally worn out. Watched video on the repair prior to tackling the job. 

Ordered door cam 

Easy fix. Just make certain you have both of these parts. Simple swap out. Parts only go in one way and can’t screw it up. 

Realized that the bushings were worn down. Looked up the appropriate parts and watched the installation videos to be sure there weren't any small details I may have missed. Got the parts pretty quickly, and the installation took about 20 minutes.
