Dishwasher is approx 5 years old. no previous issues. Suddenly upper rack operated with difficulty. Found 2 ball bearings in bottom of washer! Discovered from where they came and ordered replacement right hand track. replacement required only pulling the unit out and reinstalling new track, 4 screw bolts. Simple
I was curious as to why this happened. I'm not quite sure but it appears that the far inside end only of the right track is a slight bit more open which allows the ball bearing holder some wiggle room, probably now open more due to wear. This allowed the balls on the far inside end of the plastic sliding bearing holder to release the end 2 balls. Why the end is more open could be a mfg defect. The new one does not appear to have this slight issue.
But, in the process of removing the upper rack, I broke off a release plastic tab on the upper rack adjuster. It is a frail plastic tab. I would not have bothered with it if ordering the track replacement wasn't necessary. I ordered the replacement adjuster since I had to order the track. Upon installation, the new tab broke off exactly as the old one. Only needed to touch it!
Reassembling the adjuster takes some patience!
