How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016586 / WPW10189190 Start Device Assembly

Start device device/protective assembly and run capacitor 

I had purchased a capacitor from a local appliance parts store which didn’t fix the problem so after more YouTube videos I found that similar repairs required replacement of the starter. I didn’t want to purchase a cheaper part so, I decided to purchase appliance parts pros OEM part. It less than 30 minutes from pulling refrigerator out to pushing it back to make the repair, its running like new. I had only one slight problem this unit was smaller than the original part which require the bending of the locking clip to secure the new part like the old part. 

I replaced the start device assembly and the start capacitor. I made sure that the condenser fan and the evaporator fan were working by removing the appropriate covers, plugging it in and watching them run. Then I ordered the start assembly and capacitor. It runs great now. I ordered the parts at 3 in the afternoon and they arrived at noon the next day! Thanks AppliancePartsPros!

I bought the Start Device Assembly and Capacitor for my compressor as the ice maker had stopped making ice (after fixing it prior by replacing the Water Inlet Valve) and the freezer and fridge were both too warm. The installation was easy as the video was great information as to how to change them out. Once I changed them out, things started to cool down but not on the refrigerator side. I called Customer Support and they said you might have ice build up around the evaporator fan. I took off the panel in the freezer side and sure enough a big block of ice. Took our hair dryer and melted the ice (took about an hour). After that the freezer was -10 and the fridge is now at 38 degrees. And our ice maker is making ice. Their videos are great help! 

Looked up symptoms and found that most likely the starting device was bad, not kicking on the compressor! Watched the repair video offered and figured I could make the fix myself? Ordered the parts I say parts because the video recommended to go ahead and replace the capacitor that simply snaps on the starter assembly and sure glad I did because the old capacitor tested bad! I ordered on a Wednesday with the standard shipping rate (2-3 day arrival) and the very next morning the parts arrived! I could not believe, never so glad to see a Fed EX truck in my life! More than pleased with the service and expertise of the how to videos! 

Looked up reasons it might be happening, decided it was overload relay, ordered from appliancepartspros.com. Part arrived when they said it would. Very impressive. No more clicking.

After some terrible storms went through the area, our son's refrigerator stopped working. It sounded as if it was kicking in often, maybe too often. And it wasn't cooling. We just had some success replacing our inlet valve on our washer and our idler pulley on our dryer, so we investigated how we could help him out.
