How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005547 / WP12722803B Mullion (Blk)

The left hand side of our fridge was hard to close no matter what we did and it was just getting worse and worse. Once I figured out what the part was, we replaced the mullion hinge piece and the pivot block just to be sure. The only tool we needed was a nut driver - I was not sure we had one but ended up using a screwdriver with an interchangeable head, without the head piece in, it's basically a nut driver the exact size of this screw. I cannot believe we waited as long as we did to take care of this problem. The fix was so simple I was annoyed we have been living with this being an issue for so long when the solution was so simple. 

I bought a replacement door guide, disconnected the old guide by removing the hex screw from the center bracket, unplugging the wire harness, and lifting the door guide to slide it off the upper and lower bracket (it was already off the lower bracket due to enthusiastic opening and closing of refrigerator door). Then I wiped the new guide and the area of the door and gasket with a clean, wet cloth and let it dry. After the area dried, I plugged the wire into the wire harness, lifted the rail and slid it down on the upper and lower bracket, and reinserted and tightened the hex screw. Easy job, took 4 minutes. It took me more time to figure out what size socket wrench I needed! The recommendation was to shut off electricity or unplug the refrigerator; I did neither. 

I was having difficulty closing my twin doors. The upper part of the door guide had over the years broken and scored a groove into the upper pivot block thus causing too much-rubbing friction. No doubt about it, the video showed me the way to fix it and I did the job in 8 minutes. I also replaced the upper pivot block. No problem. 

I ordered a replacement part, watched the Youtube tutorial, and had it replaced within five minutes. It was super easy. 

Put in new door guide flapper and pivot block at the top. It was terribly difficult and I had to endure almost 3 min. of my time to repair it by replacing both parts. 3 min, I'm not kidding, it was that easy and the video they put on about it helped. 

Replacing the old door guide and pivot block took all of about 10 minutes. Very easy to do and it works just like it did when it was new. 

Replaced the mullion for the left door. 

Watched the repair video and adjusted refrigerator feet to properly align refrigerator doors. New mullion and pivot block replacement took about 5 minutes. 3 screws and 1 plug and done. The important part was the door alignment video available here. I never knew in all these years! I thought it was just a poorly built/out of square refrigerator. 

As I have done in the past, I immediately found the part for the 15-year-old Jenn-air refrigerator on the AppliancePartsPros website. Easy to find even without a part number using the diagrams on the site. Ordered it and it was delivered in less than 3 days. Used a youtube video to show how to repair and in 15 minutes replaced this critical part successfully. 

Pretty easy job because I viewed the videos provided, the parts schematics and videos were extremely well organized … I was amazed, no hunting around for the parts, and once selected the videos were right there. It took all of 5 minute do the job, and the best part was my wife thought I was a genius for fixing the fridge … no need to tell her how easy it was ??.
