How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6994155 / W11497304 Blower Wheel

Replaced the blower wheel which had worn out the center and was loose on the motor shaft. 

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most exhausting, challenging repair...this was a 1 or less. Pry up the top of the Dryer...remove 2 screws at the top of the front panel and remove the panel. At the bottom of the dryer is the Blower Housing...remove screws, take off the front of the housing and remove the broken Wheel. Replace with the new Wheel, secure with clamp and locking washer. Reverse the process, plug in the dryer and get to work on the Laundry. 

Changed out wheel with a replacement. The fit was a little tight so I had to slightly file and smooth the sharp edges off of the end of the shaft that were hanging up on the inside of the plastic hub of the blower wheel. Also used a little dish soap to help slide the wheel on the motor shaft. 

Removed front cover, removed blower wheel cover, removed retaining ring, removed blower wheel then removed retaining ring behind blower. Replace all new retaining ring, blower wheel, clamp, retaining ring, then blower cover and front cover to dryer. Super easy fix!! Thanks again 

Once again, AppliancePartsPros to the rescue. Replaced the motor and blower wheel in our 15 year old dryer. I suggest replacing the blower wheel as well (if original), as you have to remove it to replace the motor. For only about 35.00, I thought it was worth doing now, rather then later on. Same with dyer belt, but ours was recently replaced. My buddy Matt helped me along in the video, and in no time dryer was up and running. Can't believe the difference. Purrs like a kitten and starts every time now. 

Replaced motor. Easy fix. Followed the instruction video on the web site. Perfect description and instructions on how to replace the motor. Made the entire process super easy. 

Ordered parts on a Saturday afternoon. Parts arrived Tuesday afternoon. Replaced parts, dryer works. Did not have Retaining Ring pliers but used a soldering aid, worked fine 

Took the blower wheel housing apart, removed the retaining ring, pulled the old blower wheel off and slid the new blower wheel on. The new one is tight, so put a very thin film of Vaseline on the shaft first and lightly tap the center of the blower wheel with a rubber hammer until it seats on the shaft. Attached new retaining ring and re-assembled the blower housing. Put dryer back together. Amazed how quickly parts arrived! Ordered on a Saturday Afternoon online and Parts arrived Tuesday morning, just 2 1/2 days! just used regular shipping. 

My daughter called and said her dryer was making a loud noise, however the drum was turning and the heater was working. Since I've worked on my own appliances, knew I would need a putty knife, screwdriver, nut drivers and pliers to open up the front panel to diagnose the problem. The Maytag dryer was the easiest I've tore into. Pop the lid, remove two screws holding the front panel on and the blower assembly cover is right there. Removed the cover, snap rings and pulled the damaged blower wheel off the shaft. Went on-line, found the replacement part, ordered by 2 PM and received the part the next day by 5 PM. Reversed the process to install the new blower wheel, which only took 15 minutes. Super easy repair. 

Diagnosed it by using appliance parts pros online help. Ordered part on Monday, arrived on Tuesday. Second time ordering from appliancepartspros.com and couldn't be happier with the service.
