Very difficult fix even though I had done it once before about 15 years ago. Problem for me was getting the transmission down far enough to get clearance to install the belt. Removed the screws, lifted the old lid out of the hinges. Replaced the hinges, set new lid in the hinges and replaced screws. Read more

Fixing the problem was quite simple. First, I removed the lid assembly (thanks to the diagrams supplied by AppliancePartsPros.com!). Getting the back two screws out was very difficult because I couldn't see them from the front and I could not move the unit out of the enclosed space. After some trial and error, I located the screws which were 5/16 hex head screws and removed them with a MAGNETIC nut driver. The video associated with the part was easy to understand. The actual repair was easy - maybe 10 minutes. But getting the top casing of the washer fitted back over the base was a huge pain. That took 8 tries to finally get it locked in just right. The washer is 20+ years old though. The parts were all exactly correct and fit perfectly. Shipping time was excellent. Weekend laundry became very noisy, our 1987 Whirlpool washer began doing a dance across the floor and the drum was banging into the inner cabinet. After doing some research and watching a few videos on Appliance parts pros website. I inspected the washer and noticed one leg the rubber coating disintegrated, decided to change all four legs, springs and lid switch. Hardest part of the job is getting the cabinet together. The cylinder roller that supports the dryer drum was worn and needed to be replaced. I ordered the idler pulley shaft and associated parts as well since I wasn't sure if these were worn too. Watching the video on the web site gave me a good idea what was involved and where to look. It wasn't my exact model and make but provided sufficient information on what to look for.
