The Latch Switch Kit, an OEM Replacement Part is designed to ensure the safe operation of your Whirlpool dishwasher. The kit includes two microswitches and a wiring harness. It prevents the appliance from running when the door is open. If defective, the door switch may prevent the dishwasher from operating even when the door is closed.

Causes of a bad door switch can include wear and tear, exposure to moisture, or a broken actuator.

I ordered the Door Switch Kit, along with a few other items. However, the switch kit was all that was needed. Isimply followed the instructions that came with the kit. It was necessary to cut the wires which connected to the wire assembly in the door of the dishwasher. I then connected the pieces from the switch kit and then connected the end pieces to the door. I closed the door, and started up the dishwasher. It worked as well as before. Read more

I checked the AppliancePartsPros.com website to see if I could find the part. That was easy. And they had a great video on what to do (including the part on pressing out a couple of pins - I would never have figured that out). The latch broke on the Weds before Thanksgiving so I figured it may take a week or so to get the parts. Not so, even with basic shipping they arrive by that weekend.
