Soap dispenser on our whirlpool dishwasher would not work properly soap cover would not stay closed Geroge B. • Lexington , SC • August 16, 2015
I ordered a new soap dispenser and began a new venture in repairing my dishwasher.
I turned off the breaker that suppled power to the unit.
I removed all the T-15 torx screws from the inside cover except one, which my wife helped me hold in. This prevents the cover from dropping off. The Whirlpool push on retainer nut is an OEM replacement part responsible for securing the heating element in the dishwasher. It is located in the base of the dishwasher's tub to hold the heating element firmly in place. The push-on retainer nut keeps the heating element securely connected to the dishwasher's electrical system while allowing for easy removal and replacement when necessary.
Over time, push on retainer nuts can become loose, worn out, or damaged due to regular use, vibrations, or accidental mishandling. If a retainer nut fails, it can lead to parts becoming unstable or disconnected.
Symptoms of a bad push on retainer nut include:
- Loose or unstable dishwasher components
- Parts falling off or becoming misaligned
- Unusual noises during the wash cycle
- Difficulty in securing components within the dishwasher
This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models

Our dishwasher would not start. Rory D. • Fairfield , CA • May 18, 2020
A bit of searching on the internet narrowed the problem down to either the heating element or the control board. As I am not much of a diagnostician I decided to replace both. Further, my decision to do my own repairs was made easier because the prices of the parts was so reasonable.
I took my time, reviewed the videos and replaced the...

Dishwasher drain pump not working Steve E. • Tampa , FL • January 14, 2015
When the wife told me the dishwasher was leaving water in the bottom of the tub I hoped it'd be that the filter was just clogged. Nope. We usually clean our dishes before cleaning them which always makes me laugh but the drain was clear after 9 years of use, so I figured it was the pump. This was a $200 minimum for the appliance guy to replace, so I thought I'd try and do it myself.
Job wasn't too bad. Found a youtube video from another machine than mine which I hoped would help.. these...
