Julie, the door latch should be able to pull away from the strike. If you pull the inner door panel as if you were opening the door as normal, the latch should disengage.

Brian, No, there are no " sensor or some other part that has gone bad " and you did install the correct door switch assembly 00438026 / 00438026 But you'll need to check the wiring for loose or damaged connections, and check the fascia mounting plate and tabs to make sure the assembly is properly installed and operating properly. " Remove T-20 Torx fascia panel screws from inner door. Lower fascia panel from door. Locate door latch in console. Bend out console metal tabs to allow latch removal/installation." NOTE:Door latches for UC/14 & up models are different than UC/06 - UC/12 models -- they cannot be interchanged. Must replace strike plate & door latch together. You'll need to check the door latch and handle to make sure everything is aligned and operating properly.

Karl, You will want to test the door latch to make sure that there is continuity. If there is continuity on the switches then the latch is good and the issue will most likely be in the control module.
