Hello Richard, This is almost always a ducting issue. Think of it this way, on the automatic cycles, the moisture sensors are looking for moisture. If there is a ducting issue, the same moisture is recirculated over and over. This prevents the sensors from ever running without sensing the moisture. During the automatic cycle, when the sensors see no moisture is the only time the timer motor is provided with power to advance. A few things to check are the duct behind the unit for a crimp, the outside hood where the air is exhausted, and if flexible is used through the entire length, a low part of the duct will fill with water, blocking the air flow.

Hi Diane. Use a ohm meter to make sure all thermostats are closed and not open. The heater assy needs to read ohms or shorted. Next to the NTC r-2 is a resettable thermostat w/ a red button in the middle that trips at 347° electric model. If it has tripped a couple of times, you need to clean your entire vent system along w/ the vent cap outside so no moisture gets back into the dryer and clogs the vent. This in turn will cause the heater to expand too hot and open the thermostat part # 00422272. There is another thermostat part # 00422177. Heater assy. part # 00436460. The NTC's are temperature sensors. It comes w/ the heater assy. You will use a ohm/volt meter to test these individual parts part # MA-DM1. Thank You.
