For Frigidaire Refrigerator Damper Assembly (Part Number: OEM17065242)

Joao P for Model Number FRS6R5ESBL

The side refrigerator stopped cooling and freezer side also began to lose temperature and the ice began to melt. I removed the ice from the ice maker. I removed all the things that were in the refrigerator and freezer. I kept the fridge plugged in, turned the temperature button FRESH FOOD and noticed where is located the damper control heard the noise of a running start and then the sound off. On the side of freezer temperature is sufficient to maintain fresh food like a refrigerator. The temperature at the side of the refrigerator fails to cool the water. What will stopped to maintain the temperature on both sides.

Joao, You will want to check the evaporator coils in the freezer compartment behind wall. If the coils are completely impacted by frost then this would cause the cooling issue and you will want to test the defrost heater and bimetal for continuity. If there is not continuity then replace the proper part. If both check ok then you would need the defrost control. Also check for the evaporator fan motor running. If not running then check to make sure that it is getting 120 vac. If not then you will more than likely need the defrost control. If it is getting power then you would need to replace fan motor. Also check the condensor fan motor in the back of the unit to ensure that it is operational. If not check for 120 vac and if it have voltage but not running then replace fan motor. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Mike J for Model Number Kenmore Energy Star side by side refrigerator/freezer

The question involves the hermetically sealed compressor Embraco EGY80HLP. The external electrical connector failed and was replaced. The old connectors were fuzed to the compressor pins and I had to file down and bend into shape the pins on the housing of the compressor before installing the new electrical switch. i presume I cracked the epoxy which sealed the compressor where the electrical pins protrude through the compressor wall. The freezer/fridge has lost its coolant and no longer holds a charge. Instead of replacing the compressor, I thought maybe getting some JB Weld and apply to the existing epoxy to seal it, followed by a recharge of the compressor coolant. Any idea whether this easy fix will work or am I wasting my time?

Hello Mike, You would not want to try to JB weld the contact back. This would do absolutely no good due to pressure that builds in the system would cause it to leak again. YOu would want to replace the compressor.

Hello AmyHello Amy, I would check for the defrost causing unit to not cool properly. If the unit is not cooling at all check your compressor. If the compressor is not running you may have a bad start relay 241707701. Look for burn marks on the start relay. If it is a defrost issue you will have heavy frost build up on the back wall of freezer compartment. Also check to ensure your evaporator fan 808602602 is running. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Mac. You need to check and see if there is a frost pattern behind the back wall inside the unit. If not, then you have a sealed system issue and will need to repair the sealed system on the unit.

Hello Steve, The damper, (one switch 241600906) or, (two switches 241600902), controls the amount of cold is shared from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. The first indication to the customer is that items in the fresh food section will freeze. The freezer side will always warm up a little when the fresh food section gets more cold, so the two issues can definitely be related. At the same time, if the fresh food section isn't getting too cold, there will be a different issue mingled into the mix. I think I would first pull the unit out and make sure the compressor is running. Make sure, while you're back there, to insure the condenser fan motor is running. Post a valid e-mail address and I can send you some illustrated literature which may be helpful.

Hello Darrel! Yes, the damper control 241600906 can make a noise when failing. It could be a rattling, clicking, or a vibration like noise. This would be the door trying to rotate to open/close. If it is making this noise, it will need to be replaced. Hope this information helps you, thanks!

Hello George. No, you need to move the connector from the switch it is on, and install it on the other switch on the damper assembly.
