For Frigidaire Dryer Upper Felt Seal (Part Number: OEM10738248)

Gerry C for Model Number 417.82142101

Hi, I purchased a few parts for my Kenmore dryer including the upper and lower felt seals. After properly gluing both seals in place then letting the glue dry according to the video, I put the machine back together having great difficult getting the front panel into the drum because the new seals were so tight. Now, the drum won't spin under power because the seals are so tight. I purchased the seals according to my model number. What did I do wrong?

1 Answer

Gerry, It sounds like when the drum went in the felt seal may have doubled over. You will want to double check installation to make sure that this did not occur.

Kevin K. for Model Number FEX831CS0 Fridgidaire Laundry Center

After having most of my t-shirts ruined by grease stains, I decided that the culprit most likely is the rear bearing of my dryer. I purchased a dryer repair kit 5304461262. Most of the repair went as described in your as well as U-tube video's, right up to reinstalling the front door/ cover to the drum. As expected the new felts/lower were much thicker than those on the drum support frame. The upper on the other hand was not only much thicker but had 3 nylon glides that were not originally on the old felt. I saw nothing to indicated that the old barrel glides should be removed, in fact I saw a question where a guy had removed them and was told to get a new upper felt. It took me hours to work the cover onto the front barrel support. Started the dryer stopped solid in about 60 seconds. Motor still tried to start and new belt is still in place. Removed the front over/ barrel support, now turns smooth, found damage to the 3 glides on the upper felt, nearly welding themselves to the glides on the barrel. What if anything did I do wrong? Is this the wrong kit for my model of unit?

Hello Kevin, You are correct in assuming the kit was incorrect for your model since the upper felt seal for your unit is 5303937182 and does not include any glides on the upper felt seal. The correct repair kit for the model provided is actually 5304457724.

Joey, There is no easy trick to getting the front panel to go into the drum. You will just need to work with it and try to lift the drum a little to try to get it to slip into place.

Hello Scott. Most of the time it is the glides 137513300, noting that it takes 2 of these and they are sold and shipped in quantities of one. The other part I would scrutinize is the rear drum bearing kit 5303937139. This supports the rear half of the drum and can cause the rear of the drum to droop low enough to actually contact the heating element. Of course until you disassemble the unit it's hard to say whether the felt seals are worn or not. Sure hope this helps you out!

Hi Rudy. After you have removed the front inner panel, You use a putty knife to scrape the rest of the old felt off. Then us the adhesive and liberally (but carefully) glue the new one onto place. You can reassemble the dryer drum and belt and make sure the belt tension er is on correctly. Reassemble the unit but do not use it for 24 hrs. Shut the power off and keep the door open so the fumes do not get trapped internally. The upper felt is part # 5303937182. Thank You.

Hi Eric. The upper felt seal is part # 5303937182. The rear bearing kit is part # 5303281153. You will simply remove power. Remove the top. UN hook the door switch electrical connector. Then access all inside front panel screws and remove. This will give access to the drum and you remove front panel. Then you will release the belt tension off the belt tension er pulley. Then use the drum belt as a lift to remove the drum and belt out the front. Follow written instructions in the kit. Use a putty knife to remove the upper felt. Allow the felt to dry 24 hrs. before using dryer. Thank you. --

Chana P. for Model Number FER341ZAS3 (international, 220 voltage)

I already posted a question earlier, but being that I'm out of the country, I wanted to be sure I order the right thing: I need new felt seals, as over the past year they have come out (there are still 1 or 2 inside, but buttons and cloth keep getting stuck in the drum because of the spaces where the felt is missing). Can you please advise exactly what I need to order and quantity? I will need to get a technician/repairman here to install whatever I order. Thanks! Chana P.

Thanks! It seems model FEZ831AS1 does not have the upper felt that includes the three glides. Your model seems to have dryer drum glide p/n 137513300. Two are required per dryer. Hope this helps!
