The Compressor Start Kit is an OEM part for Frigidaire refrigerators. It is responsible for providing a reliable start-up for the compressor. It includes the necessary components to assist in initiating the compressor's motor, allowing it to run efficiently.

A bad compressor start kit can occur due to electrical issues, damage, or wear over time. If the start kit fails, it can lead to problems such as the compressor not starting, warm temperatures inside the refrigerator, or inconsistent cooling performance.

Symptoms of a bad compressor start kit include:

  • Compressor not starting or struggling to start.
  • Warm temperatures inside the refrigerator.
  • Inconsistent cooling or inadequate cooling.
  • Unusual noises coming from the compressor.

If you're experiencing any of these issues, it's time to replace the compressor start kit with this genuine part. Restore the proper functioning and cooling performance of your refrigerator with a new compressor start kit. This OEM Frigidaire part can also be used on Electrolux, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator, Westinghouse, and Sears/Kenmore.

For Frigidaire Compressor Start Kit (Part Number: OEM17209152)

K.A. for Model Number FRS26H5ASB4

I ordered this starter kit a month ago but did not install it until today because the freezer/fridge started working again, but yesterday the symptoms were back (buzzing for about 30 seconds, compressor not kicking on, things in the freezer starting to melt). I followed the instructions (the old starter had the wires on the bottom and the capacitor on top and the new starter has the capacitor on the bottom, the wires go on the top). The wires provided in the kit were white and I could not tell on the new part which was for the line (red) and which was for the neutral (blue) so I attached them as they displayed in the picture that was included with the instructions, with the red wire from the refrigerator being attached to the connector in the tab that was"on top" (closest to the edge) of the starter and the and the blue wire attached to the connector in the tab that was closer to the middle of the starter. I attached the kit to the compressor and plugged the refrigerator back in to see if it worked... there was a buzzing noise (like before) and after about 10 seconds, a "poof" sound and burning smell... and the starter (not the capacitor) was very warm. The compressor did not kick on. Is it possible that I attached the wires incorrectly or could there be some other problem? Have I fried the whole thing?

Hello K.A. Red goes to Overload. Blue to number 2 of relay and Capacitor to number 3 of relay.

I ordered your Frigidaire Starter Kit and wired it up to the compressor. I believe I did it right with Neutral blue wire connected to bottom wire of harness and Red live feed wore to top wire of relay harness. The old set up was a supco 3 -1 starter that stopped working. I am just getting a hard click every so often (relay engaging). I check the compressor terminals for OHMs readings and they seem to match up with what I have read is what you want to see. I have lights in the fridge and condenser fan is running with air going into freezer and fridge portion. I am wondering what else I can check to confirm it is a bad compressor and not something else like the defrost timer. I seem to understand that if the defrost timer is stuck that the condenser fan would not be on. Help!!

1 Answer

Hello Cmorris. If the compressor stopped with a 3-in-1, then the compressor is bad and will need to be replaced in the unit. The ohms test is not a 100% test and can show good, when the compressor is actually bad. Thanks.

Hello Jim. You can check and see if the starter is bad again. If so, either it had a power surge or the compressor may be bad.

Hi there. After a power outage, fridge stopped cooling. Fans were coming on and air was blowing, but the compressor wouldn't kick in. Just a clicking noise every little bit. The relay seeming to be a common answer, I pulled it and checked for a rattle. Not only was it rattling but little pieces were falling out, so I found the starter kit for the model here and ordered it. Arrived Today (kudos on the extremely fast shipping). Wired up the new relay and put everything back together, but now only the light works. No compressor kicking on, no fans, just the light. Pulled and reseated everything several times. Nada. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hello John. The unit may be in a defrost cycle. Manually advance the timer and see if it comes on then.

Hello Our refrigerator was making an intermittent buzzing noise that would last for about 30 Seconds very few minutes. Then it stopped cooling. We unplugged it and when we plugged it back in the motor started for a minute then stopped again. Based on my research I thought it was the starter overlay that needed to be replaced, but when I took it off, it did not rattle as others indicted it would. Could it still be bad even if it does not rattle? Thanks!

1 Answer

Hello Julia. Yes, it can still be bad and not rattle. If you replace it and it still does not work, you will need to replace the compressor.

Kevin, The blue will be neutral on the new relay and the red will be the line feed. Determine which way the harness connects to the new relay and then look at the relay to see which terminal is labeled as N. This will be the blue wire and the red connects to the other.

Mila, Remove the start relay on the compressor and tap it against your hand. If there are little particles that come out then the start relay is bad and would need to be replaced.

Donald for Model Number glhs36eew5

I'm trying to salvage a misdiagnosed refrigerator. The repair guy said our compressor was shot and left with the components that plug on to the compressor. I did a direct test on the compressor and it works fine. Now I want to get the parts to fix it and need some guidance. The starter kit on your web site lists starter kit AP5736381 with no picture. Does this unit plug onto the compressor and I can just plug the power connection from the relay into it, or do I need to get the capacitor as well?

1 Answer

Donald, Yes the starter 5304491941 would connect to the compressor but you would also need to have the capacitor as well for the unit to work properly.
