Hello Lindell, The wires will burn off when there is a poor connection. I would replace the start device 218721101 and the terminals TJMA02875-1 on the harness. It should not require scrapping of the unit.

Brenda, If the fans are working on the unit but just not cooling then the issue would most likely be caused by a faulty start relay on the compressor. If the fans are not running then the defrost timer may be sticking and would need a new timer.

After experiencing a strong burning odor, I removed the starter/overload assembly and found that the plastic was melted where the three compressor pins plug into the assembly. I removed the condensor (part number 216236200), which appears okay. But I don't see any way to remove the assembly from the two wires (one red, the other white) which power the assembly. Maybe the terminals have been melted beyond recognition. Can I just cut the wires next to the assembly body and, if so, will I be able to connect them to the new assembly?

ReeferRover, If you use a small flatblade screwdriver and put down in the hole next to the wire on the slotted side, there is a push tab on the end of the wire to release it from the terminal. You can break the old housing as it is not being used to be able to get to it easier. This will allow you to push the wire onto the new relay.

Recently my refrigerator was down and it wasn't getting cold in either compartments and as a result the fridge started to get hot. I called a technician he came checked the fridge and he said the relay was burnt-out which he showed me. He also checked the gas as I had thought it was out but it wasn't. He then change the relay and put in one and then left so I waited for a while to see if it would get cold and it hasn't instead it's hot and I heard a click sound. So I plugged it out, Any sugguestion as to why this has happened?
