The Surface Element is an OEM part for Frigidaire ranges. The small surface element is responsible for providing direct heat to the cookware placed on the corresponding burner of the electric cooktop or range. This element is typically located underneath the glass surface of the cooktop or range, ensuring efficient and even heat distribution for cooking.

Symptoms of a failing Surface Element include:

  • The element not heating up at all
  • Heating unevenly or only partially
  • Noticeable damage or blistering on the element itself
  • The control switch not regulating the temperature properly

Causes of a bad surface element can include a burnt-out coil, a break in the element's continuity, or problems with the connection points such as corrosion or loosening. Regular wear and tear from cooking can also lead to degradation over time.

This OEM replacement is also compatible with Electrolux, Gibson, Kelvinator, and Kenmore models.

Roger, If the element has power getting to it but not coming on then this would be a faulty surface element.

Trying to replace small front radiant element: part number 316010205 (AP2123825). My stove is a Kenmore but your cross-reference database recommended this Frigidaire part and the parts diagram looks like the one included with my Kenmore. I am pretty skilled at this sort of thing and anticipated no problems. However, the two screws that hold the cooktop in place have proved to be recalcitrant. They are tightly set and not moving. I tried heating the oven, just to see if the expansion would affect the screws but no luck. Then I tried WD 40 but it did not help even after sitting over night. Ditto for Liquid Wrench. Also, the screw heads are all-but-stripped (phillips heads), so someone has tried getting the cooktop off before. I have no way of knowing if they were successful or not. Should I just try to drill the screws out, or is there something else to try first? Thanks for your time and assistance. Karen

Karen, You've tried all the basics and will need to drill out the screws that secure the cooktop to the oven cabinet frame. Once you drill out the screws and extract them from the cooktop (use a pair of needle nose pliers) take the screw to the local hardware store and replace them with 1/4 inch hex head screws, with matching threads and length. That way you can remove the top with a wrench if needed. Nost manufacturers have updated their products using the hex head screws.

How do I remove the top to get to the burner? Everyone says remove the "TWO" screws after opening the oven. This model has metal trim plate about two inches deep above the oven door and below the front lip of the top. This trim has four screws seemingly attaching it to the range steel box. I am guessing I need to remove this trim to get to the "TWO" screws holding the cook top. However, two of the four screws are fused. so before I attempt to drill them out, I wish to know if this is the avenue I need to take, or are there other screws, or do I just pull the top up without any screws?

Bob, When you open the door look up at the bottom of the cooktop and there should be 3 screws. These screws need to be removed to lift the top. We do not show a trim piece on the unit that would interfere with the 3 screws.

Kevin for Model Number Frigidaire ES300 Electric Range (Black) Product # FEF368GBD

The terminating clip that attaches to the front (left) heating element is damaged so that it will not stay attached. I think the simplest solution might be to just replace the entire wiring harness that connects to all four surface heating elements. However, I am unable to find a picture to confirm the part number for the wiring harness since two are listed in the manual. I think the right part number is 316510676 (Harness, wiring, surface), but I want to be sure.

Hello Dave, I think the "tape" you were referring to is the mica insulative cover for the temperature limiter. This is only available with the complete assembly 318178110.

Pat, With the element not cycling only on the high setting, this would be an indication that there is an issue with the infinite switch for this burner.
