Questions & Answers

For Ge Board Asm Main Control (Part Number: OEM21564309)

Barb, You will want to check the temperature sensors in the unit to make sure that they are good. The resistance should be about 5K ohms at room temperature. If these test ok then the main control would be the main control board.

Brian, With the unit running constantly you will want to check the evaporator coils in the freezer behind the wall inside the unit. If the coils are impacted with ice It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the back wall of the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

My G.E Side By Side is acting up. The freezer temp is good at approx 0 degrees and the frig side is good for awhile but after about 2 weeks it will start to get warm on the frig side so I am sure the coils are freezing over, because if I unplug it for a couple days it will run fine but some times it seems to run a lot and sometimes I have to manually open the small trap door so that the frig side will get cold ( not often but I do once in awhile. ) and some times to get it to stop running I have to turn the freezer selector to 0 the back to 3 and it stops running. I live in an area where we occasionally have power outages / surges and a couple years back I had to replace the circuit board because it was doing all kinds of crazy things like the ice dispenser wouldn't drop the ice and the light on the front of it would dim. would the circuit board cause my issues I am currently having? And if so is there anything I can do to protect the new circuit board from this happening again. Thanks for your time.

Bob, If the damper is not opening and closing and the unit is not going through defrost then it does sound like the control board would be the issue. The only way to protect the unit from surges would be to add a single plug surge protector behind the unit. This will help with surge issues.
