Questions & Answers

For Ge Board Asm Main Control (Part Number: OEM21564309)

David, You will want to check the frost pattern on the evaporator coils in the freezer and see if there is a frost patter. If there is no frost pattern then you will want to check to see if the compressor is running. If it is then there is a sealed system issue. If there is very little frost pattern then it would be a selaed system issue. If the frost pattern is a full frost pattern where it is even from top to bottom then check the fan motor to make sure it is operating. If the coils are impacted with frost or ice then test the defrost thermostat and heater and if they check ok then replace the defrost thermistor.

I am at my wits end. 6-8 weeks ago I had a problem with the freezer icing up, and the frig freezing food. I replaced both Thermistors and the defrost temperature sensor. The frig still was freezing food but the freezer was perfect. You recommended that I replace the mother board, I did and it was perfect, everything worked great. 3 weeks ago, we had a voltage surge it blew out our PC and the fridge (on the same circuit) started freezing food, the freezer is fine. So, I replaced the mother board and it was good for about a week and is freezing food again. It seems to be on a weekly cycle where it freezes food on the weekends and is ok during the week. I work from home so am in and out of the fridge about the same every day I also notice that if I have the refrigerator door open and open the freezer, I hear the flapper in the frig opening and closing with the freezer door. What's the next step?

1 Answer

Tom, Yes the most likely cause for the dispenser going black would be the main control board but you will want to check the wire harness at the bottom of the door for loose or damaged wires. If this checks ok then the issue will be the main control board WR55X10942C.

I have a GSL25JFPD refrigerator/freezer. My evaporator fan went out so, I replaced it. I've had the refrigerant charge verified by a technician, no problem there. The refrigerator and freezer maintain a good temperature, but the evaporator fan motor ramps up and down, and the refrigerator stays on for a very long time. Could my motherboard be bad, causing my evap fan to ramp up and down resulting on keeping my refrigerator staying on for 2hrs?

Nicole for Model Number GSH25SGPCSS

The refrigerator is freezing almost everything, top shelf, door shelves, bottom bins, etc. I turned down the refrigerator temp to the lowest setting of 1 and the freezer is at a low setting of 3. The damper door motor works because when I turn down the refrigerator setting to zero, I can see the damper door shut. Something seems to not be correctly regulating the refrigerator temperature because even at a setting of 1, the refrigerator always seems to be constantly running so the freezer never enters defrost mode, hence, the damper door is staying open the whole time. What could be causing this? Thank you!

1 Answer

Nicole, With the unit freezing and the damper door operating then you will want to test the thermistors of the unit. The thermistor should have a resistance reading of 5K ohms at room temp of 77 degrees, at 36 degrees it would be 14.4K ohms of resistance. If they are out of tolerance then the thermistor would need to be replaced.

Norman, To remove the unit from installation you will need to remove the lower kick panel. On either side there should be a leveling screw one for the front one for the back that will lift the legs to allow the unit to be rolled out.

Kelly, This unit has a damper at the top of the unit that you will want to check to make sure that the door is not broken. This will be the most likely cause for the freezing in the refrigerator sections. The part number for this will be WR49X10091
