The Complete GE Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. This assembly is integral to the dishwasher’s functionality, as it combines both the pump and motor components that work together to circulate water during the wash and rinse cycles. The pump forces water through the spray arms, while the motor drives this process, ensuring thorough cleaning of the dishes.

Over time, the pump and motor assembly can wear out due to constant use and exposure to water and detergents. Additionally, debris or hard water buildup can clog the pump, causing strain on the motor and leading to failures. Electrical issues or damage from power surges can also impair the assembly's performance.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • The dishwasher not cleaning dishes properly
  • Water not circulating or spraying during cycles
  • Unusual noises, such as grinding or humming, coming from the dishwasher
  • Water not draining properly from the tub
  • The dishwasher not starting or completing cycles

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

1 Answer

Andrea, You will want to access the pump assembly and make sure that there is nothing caught in it and make sure that the impeller is not damaged causing the issue. It is possible that the bearings on the pump and motor assembly are bad.

Hello Daniel, The motor could be wired wrong, there could be a foreign object preventing the motor from turning, or the voltage to the motor could be incorrect.

Hello Whitetail. Yes, they can leak if they are bad and the seals fail. You will need to determine if it is the housing or the pump. The best repair is to replace the whole assembly.

Michael for Model Number GE QuietPower 3 Dish Washer

Hello. After watching your video I pulled out my dishwasher to look at replacing the pump and motor assembly. Your replacement pump looks similar, but somewhat different than the one in my unit now. This was expected. What I am unsure of though is one of the connections on my existing dish washer (the one that is right under the motor if my dish washer were upside down) has an opening that is smaller than the replacement piece has. Mine looks like it is an inch across and the replacement is perhaps 2 to 3 inches. Not sure if there is an adapter I need, but it is not shown in the included parts, and was not in the video. Thanks

Hello Rodney. If you are sure the unit is not clogged, and there is power coming to the drain pump, you will need to order and replace the drain pump WD19X10015 on the unit.

Scott, With the unit not getting enough water, the most likely cause for this issue would be clogged water valve WD15X10003 or faulty water valve. Also check to make sure that the float switch is not stuck.

Hello Eileen. If the pump is leaking, replacing the part should fix the water level in the unit. However, it is not an easy part to replace but can be done using the video. However, it is a timely repair to do.

Jeff for Model Number GSD3600G00BB

Hi, I've checked for any hose blockages to/from the dishwasher to disposal and there do not appear to be any. Water seems to drain fine while the sump is in operation (I see water flowing into the disposal). Then the pump tub area fills back up again to the top of the sump cap after the pump ceases operation. I don't think that much water is supposed to be left in the dishwasher. I've changed out the piston and nut assembly, but this did not seem to help. I've also removed the piston assembly to make sure the rubber isn't distorted, and I've also checked the valve gasket and this also appears to be ok. Is this just a bad pump assembly?

1 Answer

Jeff, Check to make sure that the drain hose is properly positioned where it is either going to an air gap or it is going to the bottom of the countertop before going to the drain on the disposal. If this checks ok then the pump is the most likely cause of the unit not draining completely.
