The Complete GE Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. This assembly is integral to the dishwasher’s functionality, as it combines both the pump and motor components that work together to circulate water during the wash and rinse cycles. The pump forces water through the spray arms, while the motor drives this process, ensuring thorough cleaning of the dishes.

Over time, the pump and motor assembly can wear out due to constant use and exposure to water and detergents. Additionally, debris or hard water buildup can clog the pump, causing strain on the motor and leading to failures. Electrical issues or damage from power surges can also impair the assembly's performance.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • The dishwasher not cleaning dishes properly
  • Water not circulating or spraying during cycles
  • Unusual noises, such as grinding or humming, coming from the dishwasher
  • Water not draining properly from the tub
  • The dishwasher not starting or completing cycles

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Does not drain completely. The drain solenoid tests good. Mine does not have a check valve or piston assembly. If I disconnect drain hose at insinkerator, dishwasher drains almost completely into a bucket except for about 1/4". I pulled insinkerator and all drain pipes out and there doesn't appear to be any blockages. Both sinks drain fine. I did notice that when I pulled the motor/pump assembly out that the rubber flapper attached to solenoid arm is chewed up a bit and allows some water to shoot back in the tub during drain. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello Kevin. If you are sure the drain hose is not clogged, you will need to replace the complete pump and motor assembly WD26X10013 in the unit.

Mark, A "weak" pump would also reduce the pressure and flow to the upper spray arm. You'll need to check and make sure the dishwasher is level front to back and side to side and recheck the water level " The flood switch should open when the water level is approximately 1/4-3/8 in. above the base (bottom) of the float dome". If all's OK you'll need to check the spray arm WD35X10055 and hub assembly for excess wear, and the spray arm conduit WD12X10147 for cracks or holes and a proper seal to the manifold pipe.

My dishwasher leaks from the drain solenoid only when the solenoid opens. what is the part i need to change? I removed the drain solenoid and do not see any cracks in the plastic housing. It would appear to be leaking from the bolt that comes through the plastic pump housing that the drain solenoid attaches to. Is there a seal "inside" the pump housing for this bolt? There is No seal on the outside of this housing. If there is a seal inside the housing what is the best way to get to it? from inside the dishwasher by removing the bottom panel or removing the entire dishwasher from between the cabinets and removing the pump from the bottom.. thank you. george

Jerald, The other hose would loop on the outside of tub as an air gap. Usually loops on the left side.

Drew, You will want to check your pressure switch for proper operation. On the pressure switch pin 1 (black) to pin 3 (brown) is the normal position and Pin 1 to 2 opens water valve circuit and energizes drain pump. Since the unit fills and just a few minutes later it goes to draining then you want to make sure that the switch is not faulty. Also check to make sure that you are getting 120 vac to the pump motor and if the pump motor is not getting the 120 vac then you need to check wiring from the pump to control. If the pump is getting power but not operating the you will need new motor. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Bien, Based on your post desc4ription, you most likely will need the drain valve seal WD8X181 and possibly the nut WR2X7054, Once you remove the solenoid and arm assembly it's apretty simple repair, as long as you get the new seal installed and seated around the shaft and into the pump housing, You shouldn't really need a servicer to perform this repair, if your careful.

When the solenoid activates, should the drain valve switch 100% open (pump to drain) or 100% closed (pump to sprayer arm)? It appears that the solenoid travel allows the valve switch to divert water 100% closed (pump to sprayer arm) but when it switches, the valve only opens about 70%, allowing some water from the pump to drain and some to pump back into the sprayer arm. I am wondering if this is why I have intermittent draining problems. Everything appears to be functioning as designed and there is no obvious damage or wear to the components. Is my drain valve suspect or should I focus on the solenoid?

1 Answer

Hello Brfoss, The drain solenoid should open fully when the unit goes into a drain cycle and if not then it will not drain properly.
