The Control Knob Assembly is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This assembly includes the knob that users turn to select the washing machine's cycles and settings. It's a critical interface between the user and the appliance, allowing for easy operation and selection of the desired wash programs.

Over time, the control knob assembly can wear out or become damaged through regular use. This can lead to issues with selecting cycles or even prevent the machine from starting a cycle altogether.

Symptoms of a bad Control Knob Assembly include:

  • The knob feels loose or does not engage with the settings
  • Difficulty in selecting wash cycles
  • The washing machine fails to start when the knob is turned
  • Visible cracks or damage to the knob or its housing

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Roberto, To put the clip on, you have to pull out on the timer shaft and slide the knob on. There will be slots on the knob for the clip to slide into in order to hold the knob on. The knob itself will spin freely but the skirt should only move when setting the timer.

At first when you would go to set the washer the knob would turn feely, not making contact with the dial and you would have to set the dial by turning it around. After a few weeks of having to set my machine like that and it working fine, now my machine won't advance to different cycles during the wash and has to be manually changed to different cycles in order to complete a wash. My husband removed the knob and the whie teeth on the knob are stripped so I know the knob needs replaced. Is that the only part I need or is there something further wrong with my machine?

Kayla, If the unit was able to be rotated by hand to get to each part of the cycle but not advancing on its own then the issue would be in the timer which would need to be replaced.

Danny, You should only need the timer knob clip WH1X2117 to repair your washer. The clip can become "weak" and not retain the knob on the timer shaft properly." To remove the control timer: Disconnect power. Using a fl at blade screwdriver, remove the spring clip that attaches the timer knob to the timer shaft. Pull the knob and dial straight out from the timer". While you have the knob and dial off, it's a good idea to lightly lube ("vaseline" works well)the metal timer shaft at both ends, next to the plastic timer body and manipulate the shaft in and out several times to work the lubricant into the stops in the timer mechanism, then install the dial and knob using the new clip.
