This molded resin cover is a protective plastic shield used inside the microwave. It helps protect internal components and ducting from splatter and debris and restores a secure, finished fit when the original cover is cracked or missing. What it does:

  • Shields internal components from grease, steam, and food splatter inside the unit
  • Helps maintain proper airflow paths and a snug, rattle-free fit
  • Common replacement when the original cover is cracked, warped, loose, or missing
  • Visual cue: exposed internal parts or a cover that won't stay secured
What's included:
  • One resin (plastic) cover
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power (unplug or switch off the breaker) and allow the unit to cool
  • Access the cover location; remove retaining screws/clips and keep hardware for reuse
  • Align the new cover and secure it without overtightening
  • Ensure the cover is fully seated and not contacting nearby moving parts before restoring power

Dj for Model Number GE jvm1640sj

My microwave started flashing and making a crackling noise, as noticed at/behind the waveguide cover. I've read this could be the waveguide. It does not do it continuously I've tried to remove the cover but I can't get one of the clips removed. Is there a trick to depressing the tab in the clip? I can't even see the tab on the clip on the left tab. I don't want to damage it because i'm not sure it's the issue, and i read to remove the cover to see if that stops the issue. If anything I may unmount the microwave (under the cabinet) and disassemble it to get to the backside of the cover. Also, if I have scratched the paint off the metal inside the microwave in this process, would this pose a problem when using the machine?

DJ, The clip should just pull out from the cabinet and there is no real trick to it. The waveguide will most likely be greasy or dirty and cleaning it may allow it to work properly. If not then the wave guide would need to be replaced.

Peggy, There are 2 clips on the wave guide at the top that have to be pushed in slightly. This will allow the top of the wave guide to come loose and then you lift it out of the other slots.

Sonja, If you have an rack that goes in the microwave then you will want to look at the pegs on the wall that the racks sit on and check to see if there is any type of rust or metal exposed. Also try wiping the interior of the microwave out to make sure that there is no type of metal shavings in the unit that could cause the sparking.
