Charles D October 18, 2015 for Model Number GE TA14SAB I have an old GE refrigerator that I manually defrost ever since getting it. I used a defroster that I plugged into an electric outlet, it heated up and I stuck it in the freezer to aid the defrosting process. The defroster lasted over 20 years but finally gave away. I am looking all over for one of these defrosters but can't find any. I know I can put a pot of boiling hot water in the freezer or use a hair dryer on medium to defrost but the defroster I had worked so well. I knew not to put it against anything in the freezer since it could warp plastic etc. Do you know anywhere at all where I could purchase a defroster like the one I used for over 20 years? Sincerely, Charles Dale
1 Answer Charles, Unfortunately we do not have any information on a defroster that would work in place of the one that you previously used for defrosting this unit. Read More...
K.D.S. October 14, 2015 for Model Number GE Refrigerator GSS22JETABB I ordered replacement Defrost heating element and received a dual element part. The original part is only a single element. In the freezer, there is a blue wire on the left side and a pink wire on the right. How do I attach the element to the freezer? One side of the element is connected by a short yellow wire. Thanks
1 Answer Hello K.D.S., This is a engineering update for the unit to correct an issue where the unit was not completely defrosting. It is easy to install. Both wires will need to be routed down the one side where the two terminals are on the new heater assembly. The additional piece of wire is included to extend the one wire if it is too short but is seldom needed. Just release the harness from the retainer and pull the harness down and one wire will reach in a diagonal configuration. You will just need to make sure the wire does not get pinched by passing too closely to the area where the screws go in that retain the rear wall, (evaporator cover). Read More...
Ron R September 26, 2015 for Model Number GSL22JFPCBS Freezer side froze up with frost. Refrigerator side wasn't cold. Repairman replaced defective defrost element. Went from a single element to a double element. Now the ice tray ice melts about 50% of the ice during defrost cycle and the water accumulates in the bottom tray and freezes. He came back and replace the circuit board. So far $516.00. Decided to try myself and found this web site. Any suggestions? I suspect the sensor now. Your video repairs are sweet. Plus I could have saved about $140 in parts mark up.
1 Answer Ron, The temperature sensor WR55X10942C would be the most likely cause for the unit to stick in the defrost cycle for too long of a period. You would want to replace this sensor. Read More...
