Sasha January 04, 2014 I have a GE side by side refrigerator model# gss22sgpass. the freezer part wants to freeze up and the freezer is not cold and the refrigerator part is not cold. Can you please tell me what the problem is? Thank you
1 Answer Hello Sasha, This is most likely the defrost heater WR51X10101. It could also be the main board WR55X10942C, the defrost thermostat WR50X10068, or the temperature sensor WR55X10025. There are two of the last in the freezer compartment. The one that normally gives a defrost issue is mounted to the top of the evaporator coils. Read More...
Jim October 22, 2013 for Model Number GSH22KGPD WW Hello, We have a GE side-by-side, model GSH22KGPD WW, Ser.# 200053 that is running differently than in years past. There is no air flow entering the refrigerator compartment through the vent at the upper left side rear, even though the compartment seems to be reasonably cool. I'm sure there used to be cold air flow out of this vent in the past. A fan in the freezer seems to be running continuously at high speed. The freezer is cold with the contents frozen solid. There is a small accumulation of light surface frost on the inside back panel of the freezer. Used to be the fan(s) would noticeably change speed periodically, so the constant high speed of the fan in the freezer is apparent. We bought the unit used, and I replaced the main PWB a few years ago to solve an odd "moaning" noise one of the fans was making at times. The unit has run perfectly afterwards until now. Reading different forums leads me to believe that either the defrost heater has failed (apparently a high-mortality part), the defrost t'stat (thermistor ?) has failed (less likely ?) or the PWB has crapped out (hopefully not! $$!). I'm reasonably handy with tools and multi-meters, so practical troubleshooting advice and/or point-to-point wiring continuity/resistance will be greatly appreciated! Jim

Dana September 10, 2013 for Model Number ge hss221fmaww Check defrost heater and it shows good. Freezer coils continue to freeze up.
1 Answer Hello Dana. Check the thermostat and the main board on the unit. They can cause the issue you are having with the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Frank August 17, 2013 for Model Number gss201epacc My freezer seems to be working fine, but the refrigerator will not cool below 64 degrees. Both settings are on 5. Is it probably the defrost heater?
1 Answer Hello Frank. If there is frost on the back wall inside the freezer, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the defrost timer. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Wilda August 13, 2013 for Model Number FEF377CFBE We have a solid sheet of ice on the floor of the freezer which actually froze over the drain hole so water was beginning to drip from the front when door was opened. We cleaned all the ice out and it is forming again, what part could be bad? This is another problem we have always had.....the ice freezes together in the dispenser/ container and then has trouble going through the process to be dispensed into our glass. Frost & ice build up everyday, we have to clean it off and chisel the ice so the ice can come through. Therefore everytime we open freezer door, frost is scraped off and falls on the floor. My husband said he noticed that there seemed to be a flaw in the gasket - (a gap) in the freezer door where the ice comes out. Sometimes we hear a stray ice cube that just falls out on the floor!!! I have had it up to here with this thing. I have talked to a lot of people who have different brands and they have similar problems. Can the industry not fix these problems. I bought my fridge in 2000. Our problems started within the first year! Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
