Hello Dale. Here is a picture of the diode to see what it looks like WB27X10597. It is attached to the capacitor and then to the cabinet.

Lal, The most likely cause for the unit to stop operating after replacing the thermostat, diode, and magnetron would be a faulty HV transformer on the unit.

Earl, In most cases when there is a burning odor then the diode has failed and would need to be replaced.

Hello Ty, This is most likely either a shorted or open humidity sensor. There are over 25 model numbers of the GE Profile Spacemaker Microwave line, so I cannot provide a part number with out the model number. There is too large of a chance that the part number will not be correct. This information must be correct to keep the unit operating safely in your home. If you could please either re-post with the model number or call us at 1-877-477-7278, we will be more than happy to locate the part number you require for your model number. The model number will be on the units' I.D. tag around the door of the unit.

Lou J. for Model Number PEM31SM3SS

Hello, Not too long ago I noticed that there was a burning smell coming from my microwave. We tend to only use it for short periods of time (30 seconds to 2 minutes) and we noticed it was taking less and less time for the smell to be obvious. I looked around and found some discussions that implied that the rectifier was the most likely culprit. I ordered one and replaced it with the new one, but while things were open, I did test both rectifiers with a meter and a battery and saw that they both tested the same way. That was an indication that perhaps the old rectifier was not bad, but I left the new one installed anyway. While things were open, I searched for the source of the burning smell and it was clearly one of the connectors on the transformer wires that was burning and melting. I ensured both connectors were seated properly when I re-assembled the microwave, and when I began using the microwave there was no smell at all! I felt very smart and thought all was great, but then about a week later, the smell is back within just a few seconds. So, clearly the rectifier was not the problem. I'd like to assume it was the transformer, but could there be something else that is causing these items to overheat or the transformer to malfunction? Please help, my coffee is too cold to drink! Lou

Hello Lou. It sounds like you will need to replace the transformer and replace the terminals on the wires that are burnt in the unit as well.

Bill Ory for Model Number PT970BM1BB

My 4.5 year old GE Microwave PT970M1BB Buzzes Loudly when the door is shut. This microwave is built-in with an Oven below. Loud buzzing starts immediately when the door is shut. So far, I have replaced the Transformer, Magenetron & a plastic "Air-Cover" (basically a duct that goes between the Magenetron & the side wall of the microwave cooking chamber). I have also replaced a Diode that goes between the capacitor and the sheet metal of the microwave. The original "Air Cover" was melted on top so I assumed the Magnetron was overheating causing this problem. I just completed the replacement of all these parts and when I shut the door the buzzing starts and I see some "whisps" of smoke coming up from the magenetron. I am not sure if this is just because it is new and needs to break in a little and burn off some paint or if this is another symptom of the real problem. I called one of the sales folks and they looked up my problem and said that other Posts have indicated either a bad door switch or the control board for the microwave. Hopefully this will be a relatively cheap-fix since I have already sunk alot of money and time into this unit. Thanks for your help. Bill

Hello Bill, It sounds like you have a bad control board or a shorted or pinched wire and will need to inspect the wiring.
