The Dual Coil is an OEM part for GE dryers. This is often referred to as the “M” coil. If you need to replace both the main coil and dual coil, it is recommended to order the kit 279834, which includes both coils for a comprehensive replacement.

Causes of a faulty dual coil can include wear and tear over time, electrical component failure, or damage due to overheating or excessive usage. These factors can result in insufficient heat production, inconsistent drying, or no heat at all.

Symptoms of a bad dual coil may include:

  • Insufficient heat or no heat during the drying cycle
  • Inconsistent drying results
  • Extended drying times

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

For Ge Dual Coil (Part Number: OEM6128265)

Going Crazy for Model Number GE MODEL GTDX180GD1WW

takes several cycles to dry anything. Burner lights properly, stays on for approx. 2 minutes then cycles off. Will relight in approx. 50seconds and stay on for 45-60 seconds. This continues over and over. Gas valve solenoids resistance are all within factory specs. Tested thermostatic switches, opening and closing within recommended temps. Continuity in all switches. Heat exiting the oulet vent is only 139 degrees F. Burner is not staying on long enough to produce required temp. Should outlet temp be approx. 180 degrees F. These tests were done on high temp cotton setting, and on timed cycle. Clothes still took several cycles to dry on either setting. HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Going Crazy, Sounds like an airflow issue, make sure the vent is clear and is not crimped or crushed anywhere, for the vent four-inch rigid pipe is recommended.

Dave, there is a heat detector on the side of the burner tube, WE4X448, it senses high temperature and will open up when it gets real hot, you can check it for continuity, it should read closed when it is cold, open when it gets hot. That is where I would start, if it checks good, replace the coils. 279834

Saul, With the gas valve chattering then this would most likely be a valve issue and would want to replace the gas valve. The part number for the valve is WE11X20711.

Dano, This issue would most likely be caused by faulty gas coils on the dryer. This could also be caused by a clogged vent so check the venting of the unit to make sure that there is no clogging.

Michael, Since there are no thermal fuses or safety thermostats in the circuit, and the dryer is Shutting off, you'd have to suspect a loos of L1 power to the control board or and fault in the control board WE4M489.

Hello David. You will need to test and see if your getting power to the igniter. If so, you will need to replace the igniter WE04X25996. Hope this helps.

You can check the coils with an ohm meter. They should read closed. If open, you will need to replace.
