The Handle End Cap is an OEM part for GE ranges. This part plays a role in capping the ends of the range handle, allowing a seamless and aesthetically pleasing finish while also preventing injuries by covering potentially sharp edges.

Causes of a bad handle end cap include physical impact, frequent cleaning that leads to wear, or degradation due to exposure to kitchen grease and heat.

Symptoms of a bad hand end cap:

  • A loose or incomplete look of the range handle, affecting the overall design and functionality.
  • Exposed sharp edges that could pose a safety risk to users.
  • An unsecured handle, which may affect the ease of opening and closing the oven door.

This OEM GE part can also be used on Hotpoint, RCA, and Kenmore/Sears appliances.

Mary, to install the handle and endcaps, the door would need to be removed from the oven, placed on a flat surface with the handle portion facing up. Once the door is placed as such, there will be a screw on each side of the top panel that secures the panel bracket to the door frame. These two screws will need to be removed to allow the top outer panel to be removed and gain access to the door handle and cap mounting screws.

Hello Diane. To change the end cap in an oven door, you will need to determine how to remove the door on the model number you are working on. If you open the door to the first stopping point, some oven doors will lift off the unit in this position. On other models, you will see clips on the back of the hinge toward the opening where the hinge enters the range. If yours is like this, you will open the door all the way open, then pull the clips down until they stop and lock in place. Then close the door to the stopping point and lift the door off the range. If you door does not lift off, and it does not have the clips, then you will open the door all the way open. You will see a hole in the hinge at the bottom of the door. You will insert a pin or nail into that hole and close the door to the stopping point. Then you can lift the door off the unit. Once the door is removed, you will lay it on a soft surface and disassemble the door. Pay attention and make notes if needed for reassembly of the oven door. Once you have replaced the door endcap, you will reinstall the oven door back onto the range in reverse order of the way you removed it.
