Mariana March 01, 2014 for Model Number tfx22kh This is an old model the freezer stays cold but I have to defrost it every 10 days for the refrigerator side to work what could be the problem?
1 Answer Hello Mariana. There are a few things that could be causing the problem. The heater [WR49X391], The defrost thermostat [WR50X55], and the defrost timer [WR9X482]. You can test the components to determine the problem. Using a meter you can test the thermostat, and the heater for continuity. If they read open then they will be bad and need to be replaced. If good then replace the timer. Read More...

Jack M. L June 12, 2013 for Model Number Hotpoint Refer Older than dirt. Hi Had to replace the Defroster elements last year May 2012 WR49X391 r for the first time ever in the 40 plus years I owned it. Then last week one of the elements burned out so we did it again. What would cause them to only last one year? And How can I set the refergerator to have less problems. Have these units last longer? Thanks Jack
1 Answer Jack, There is no way to set the unit for the heater to last longer. Unfortunately these parts can fail at any time and it would be hard to determine why it failed. Most likely it was just a weak part. Read More...
Jennifer April 15, 2013 for Model Number TFF22YBR Need new heater as the elements are burned through on the ends and the plastic caps on the end of the tubes are crumbling. Looks like excesive heat. Is this just due to age or is there likely something else wrong? Food always stayed frozen and no frost on the inside until recently.
1 Answer Hello Jennifer. Over time, the elements do get old and become brittle on the ends. This is due to the heating of the element. Based on the information you provided, you will need to order and replace the element in the unit. Read More...
