Jess, The information you requested : The defrost heater(s) WR49X391 operate on 115 VAC, Each heater, should have 10 ohms resistance or a total of 20 ohms when wired correctly, and draw 11.5 amps or 1320 watts, when energized . You also need to allow a 10 % (+/-) variance on your readings to be within factory specifications.

Hello Mariana. There are a few things that could be causing the problem. The heater [WR49X391], The defrost thermostat [WR50X55], and the defrost timer [WR9X482]. You can test the components to determine the problem. Using a meter you can test the thermostat, and the heater for continuity. If they read open then they will be bad and need to be replaced. If good then replace the timer.

Alex, The wire that comes with the heater is not available as a separate part. If the wire that you are needing is coming from the wall of the refrigerator it is not a replaceable part.

Jack, There is no way to set the unit for the heater to last longer. Unfortunately these parts can fail at any time and it would be hard to determine why it failed. Most likely it was just a weak part.
