The Ice Door Assembly is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is integral to the ice dispenser system, controlling access to the ice chute. This component ensures the efficient delivery of ice cubes or crushed ice when activated and seals off the chute when not in use to maintain the freezer's temperature and prevent frost buildup.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Door Assembly include:

  • Frost or ice buildup around the dispenser area
  • Ice escaping from the dispenser when not in use
  • Failure to dispense ice
  • Noise during operation indicating misalignment or malfunction

Causes of a bad Ice Door Assembly can include mechanical wear from frequent use, failure of the spring mechanism or solenoid that operates the door, or damage to the sealing surfaces that leads to air leaks.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

R. G. H. for Model Number MZD2766GES (?)

We've a 'big' Maytag wide-by-side. [The model #, provided(@ left), is from a' Service Manual' downloaded some years ago]. Most Maytag Website's now list's their MZD models - 'as no longer supported' ----"What"??? What I am most in need of right now is a layout & configuration diagram identifying and illustrating the mix of (stiff) plastic, (or opaque Nylon), 1/4", in-&-out waterlines, spread-around the lower and backside of the re-frig. for water and ice delivery. I'm likely going to need more parts but getting the water distribution lines re-connected correctly is the biggest log-jam right now. Waiting to hear from you.. Thanks in advance, RGH

RGH, Unfortunately we do not have a diagram that shows the routing of the water lines for the refrigerator. This is not something that the manufacturer puts out.

Birdman, The ice door part number WR17X11653 will work for your unit but you also want to check the solenoid to make sure that the plunger is not rusted and causing the door to stay open. The solenoid part number is WR62X10055.

Hello Thomas. To access the ice door assembly you will need to remove the control board on dispenser. To do this you will first check to see if there is a screw underneath holding it in place. If no screw then pull on the bottom of the control board and it will pop free. Behind the control board there are 4 screws that you have to remove. once removed then you can pull the ice dispenser assembly out and access door.

I have frost build up (crystals) in the ice shoot and above the shoot on the ice dispenser . The flapper was distorted . I replaced the flapper and now I don't see any light when looking down the shoot but I still have the same problem. The flapper seems ok and the spring seems ok ? Now I am stuck , can you help The fridge is working 100% other than that the temp readout is 0 in the freezer and 37 in the fridge part . A solution would be much appreciated Carl

Carl, You will want to take the bin out of unit and make sure that there is not ice that has gotten in there that is frosty which will fall into the chute and on top of the chute. Also check the door seal to make sure that it is sealing good and make sure that the dispenser solenoid does not have rust on it.

Hello Thelma, You do not have to remove the trim to replace the ice door. Turn power off to the unit and grasp the bottom of the interface assembly and pull out on the bottom of it, (this is the part with the dispenser controls on it). This will snap out. You will then be able to remove the screws holding the dispenser housing shield in place. When this is removed, the ice door is easily accessed. I would have the ice door solenoid WR62X10055 ready to put in also since condensation causes this design to commonly rust and seize.

Tony, If you're sure there are no obstructions in the chute or housing you'll need to remove the façade WR55X10443 and the dispenser shield WR49X10227 and check the solenoid WR62X10055, spring and door crank for broken or bent/damaged parts.

Hello Mark. To remove the dispenser display: 1. Remove the Phillips-head screw from the housing. 2. Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver into the small opening located at the bottom front corner of the display. 3. Pry the bottom right side of the dispenser display away from the dispenser recess. 4. Grasp display, pull it towards the right and remove it from the recess. 5. Disconnect the wire harness. Caution: To prevent breaking tabs when installing the display, first insert the left side tabs into the recess then snap the display in place.

Howie R. for Model Number TFX30PR

I was having the problem of frost buildup in the ice chute and ice bucket. Noticed that the ice door wasn't closing all the way. Replaced the ice door per instructions in the video although my model is a bit older and set up a little differently. Anyway, the door would now close only half way i.e. worse than before. Reset everything and still had problems. Noticed that the solenoid wasn't coming up completely so I ordered a new solenoid and spring. Replaced both of those and still no luck. In order to close the flap, I have to push up on it from the outside. Do you have any ideas? I was thinking that maybe the door binds up on the rubber funnel recess shield but not sure if I should replace it. Already spent an arm and a leg on shipping and handling but would like to get this fixed. Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated.

1 Answer

Howie, You will want to check the dispenser door arm where it goes into the solenoid and inspect it for damage. Also check the spring that goes on the door to make sure that it is in position properly and you may need to pull the arm off and where the brackets are that hold it in place go you may need to lubricate it as it may be sticking.
