The Ice Door Assembly is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is integral to the ice dispenser system, controlling access to the ice chute. This component ensures the efficient delivery of ice cubes or crushed ice when activated and seals off the chute when not in use to maintain the freezer's temperature and prevent frost buildup.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Door Assembly include:

  • Frost or ice buildup around the dispenser area
  • Ice escaping from the dispenser when not in use
  • Failure to dispense ice
  • Noise during operation indicating misalignment or malfunction

Causes of a bad Ice Door Assembly can include mechanical wear from frequent use, failure of the spring mechanism or solenoid that operates the door, or damage to the sealing surfaces that leads to air leaks.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Hello Gary, You need to open the dispense area and make sure the linkages are not sticky and causing the micro-switch WR23X10783 to stick. If not, the water valve WR57X33326 may have failed.

Hello James, You are correct. If you can see light through the ice door, room temperature air, which contains a certain amount of moisture, will get into the unit to replace the cold air that drops out of the unit. This moisture condenses to the cold liner and forms frost. Replacing the ice door WR17X11653 and the ice door solenoid WR62X10055 should correct the issue.

Vince, You will want to look into the ice chute and shine a light into the dispenser. If you see the light around the ice door then replace the ice door as it is defective.

Tom, You can check to see if there are any gaps in the door seal which would create the moisture issue. Also check the ice door by shining a light in the chute and looking up into the dispenser to see if any light can be seen. If light can be seen then the ice door is fault and need to be replaced.

I recently purchased the ice door assembly and was able to successfully replace it on my freezer. Unfortunately, I am still getting frost inside my freezer that is getting in via that door. It is not completely closing. I tried the trick where you put a flash light in the chute, and there is still a sliver of light I can see from the outside. What should be my next step? I know there is a motor that actually does the closing of that ice door, could that need to be replaced? The door IS closing, but obviously not completely. Any ideas why a NEW ice door would not work? It can't be warped since it is new... Please help if you can. Thanks, Laurie

Laurie, You will want to check the solenoid that opens and closes the door to see if the shaft has rust on it that would cause the door not to close properly.

Becky, The ice door assembly is what would need to be replaced part number WR17X11653. To access the dispenser assembly, there is a cover on the front that you remove and then there are 4 screws holding the assembly in place. Remove the screws and pull out the dispenser assembly. Once off you can remove the ice door and install the new one.

Hi. You remove the spill catcher. Remove outer trim screws. Remove the fountain outer shield screws. Note all connections to make sure they are reconnected the same. Use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist you in your diagnostics. Remove at least one wire from the switch terminal to ohm out the switch part # WR23X366. It should open and close in continuity when you depress the button. Thank You.
