The Ice Door Assembly is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is integral to the ice dispenser system, controlling access to the ice chute. This component ensures the efficient delivery of ice cubes or crushed ice when activated and seals off the chute when not in use to maintain the freezer's temperature and prevent frost buildup.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Door Assembly include:

  • Frost or ice buildup around the dispenser area
  • Ice escaping from the dispenser when not in use
  • Failure to dispense ice
  • Noise during operation indicating misalignment or malfunction

Causes of a bad Ice Door Assembly can include mechanical wear from frequent use, failure of the spring mechanism or solenoid that operates the door, or damage to the sealing surfaces that leads to air leaks.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Hello Manny. Controls The electronic controls on the dispenser are interactive. The control panel is equipped with a proximity sensor that causes the panel to light up as you approach the dispenser (approx. 2 inches). Removal 1. Remove the bezel from the outside of the freezer door. Note: On stainless steel models, the front panel must be removed. Remove screws from top, bottom, and hinge side. Pull out on hinge side. 2. Remove the screw from the bottom of the control panel. Lift up and pull the bottom of the panel out. Disconnect the connectors, and remove the control panel. 3. Remove 4 screws and the backing panel. 4. From the back side of the panel, remove the water switch and the light socket. 5. Remove 3 screws and the duct door solenoid.

Angel, The part that would cause this would be either the ice door solenoid not allowing the door to close all the way or the ice door has air leak around it.

Hello Brandon. You do not have to remove the trim. Just grasp the bottom of the control panel on the door and pull toward you to unlock and remove it. Then follow the video on removing the housing.

My ice maker is condensating. I have replaced the ice door assembly, the door recess crank and the door spring. The condensating has gotten better but not gone away. When I look down through the ice chute I can still see light coming through the seal. I have cleaned the area where the door assembly meets the refrigerator and the solenoid seems to work fine. It opens and closes the door as it should. Any ideas what it could be or what I should do?

Ice won't dispense, water works fine. I accessed the circuit board in the freezer door (under the ice dispenser panel). I unplugged the solenoid for the chute flap from the circuit board and then the ice flowed fine. So I ordered a new solenoid and chute door. No improvement; as before, when I try to dispense ice the solenoid makes a cycling noise (on, off) and the dispenser light flashes on and off but the auger motor does not turn and no ice. Disconnect the solenoid from the circuit board and the auger motor works fine and ice flows, but obviously the chute door does not open. So I then replaced the circuit board. No change. I checked the microswitch and it was fine. Any ideas? I thought for sure it was the solenoid since unplugging it results in the auger then working. Could it be the little circuit board that the dispensing light is on or could my new solenoid be defective?

Hello Mark, Check the wiring harness at the door hinge for damage. If none is found, the issue is most likely a power supply issue on the main board WR55X10942C.

Don, You will want to make sure that there is no crease in the ice door. Also you may want to put a little bit of grease around the door arm to make sure that it is not causing it to hang up. The spring for the ice door is part number WR02X12059 if needed.

Chuck, You will want to disconnect the water tube at the door and check to see if water comes out of the tube coming from under the unit. If there is water coming out then the fill tube in the door is frozen. The water tube if frozen has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no replacement available.
